Proposed merge with Voice Command Devices
edit(I'm not sure I'm using the talk feature right, so sorry for that. But I see on the page a proposed merge with Voice command device that is not discussed here Erlapso ) A VUI (a voice user interface) is something different than a voice command device. The voice command device is a term that defines the physical device that enables a voice communication; a voice user interface defines the Human-computer interface. The same Voice User Interface can be deployed on different voice command devices; it can also be deployed on something that is not a voice command device, like a car. So the pages should not be merged as they refer to different things. Erlapso - 18 July 2018
- A "voice command device" is simply a device that can be controlled with a "voice user interface". They're not the same thing, but as VCDs are the applications of VUIs, discussion of them is currently 50% and should probably be 80%+ of the VUI article. And it seems there's not much point in discussing VCDs without discussing VUIs, so from an overlapping content perspective, a merge makes a lot of sense to me. -- Beland (talk) 22:41, 20 December 2018 (UTC)
TUI (Telephone User Interface)
editTUI is not necessarily Voice based. --Pinecar 18:48, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
Remove external link
editAngel.com was simply advertising on my dictionary. I have removed the advertisements. Please review. The dictionary is a work in progress, but it already covers quite a bit of concepts and items that are very crucial to understanding the IVR industry. This is a real dictionary and not a marketing gimmick. Thanks.

Removed a spam link (several times) to a website called ivrdictionary. This is a thinly veiled attempt to put advertising on Wikipedia. Links were added by several anonymous users within a tight IP range. Website purports to list ivr terminology, but in reality it prominently displays an advertisement to Angel dot com, which is a commercial company that sells IVR related products. The same links were added to other articles that are related to IVR technology. Calltech 16:55, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
History section needs expansion
editThere's pretty much nothing in the history section. When was VUI first invented? How has it developed? Right now it just says something about 2007 and drops it. --IronMaidenRocks (talk) 11:31, 27 February 2021 (UTC)

Voice user interface vs "sonic user interface"
editI noticed that Wikipedia has a separate article about "sonic user interfaces." Is this simply a synonym of "voice user interface," and should it be merged into this article? Jarble (talk) 22:41, 30 April 2021 (UTC)

Proposed merge of Sonic user interface into Voice user interface
editUnclear what difference between a "sonic user interface" and "voice user interface" actually is, and not enough reliable sources to support an independent article on the former. See also recent AFD which produced no consensus. SomethingForDeletion (talk) 02:39, 13 March 2024 (UTC)
- User:HotMess, User:Mir_Novov, User:Eastmain: FYI since you all participated in recent AFD on this. SomethingForDeletion (talk) 02:53, 13 March 2024 (UTC)
- I'd say the simplest thing to do is to make Sonic user interface into a redirect to Voice user interface. The only two sentences in Sonic user interface pretty much say the same thing as the first sentence of Voice user interface. Sure, I guess that if someone does invent a hypothetical sonic user interface which uses a variety of sound besides voice (or a contrived 'knock once for yes twice for no' voice-substitute form of audible communication) for the user-interfacing, then there might be a reason to create a seperate article about those non-voice sonic user interfaces. But, as it stands, the only sonic user interfaces which exist take the form of voice user interfaces, so, y'know, no real point in Sonic user interface existing. 🔥HOTm̵̟͆e̷̜̓s̵̼̊s̸̜̃🔥 (talk・edits) 12:56, 13 March 2024 (UTC)
- I'm happy with your proposal. SomethingForDeletion (talk) 03:31, 14 March 2024 (UTC)
- Actually, now that I think about it, I suppose it could instead redirect to Voice user interface#Non-verbal input (seeing as that section actually is about non-voice sound-based user interfaces). 🔥HOTm̵̟͆e̷̜̓s̵̼̊s̸̜̃🔥 (talk・edits) 12:43, 14 March 2024 (UTC)
- redirection has been done. 🔥HOTm̵̟͆e̷̜̓s̵̼̊s̸̜̃🔥 (talk・edits) 01:55, 16 March 2024 (UTC)
