Expanding entry

I'd suggest the best way to expand the entry is to go through the early Invasion! and ABC Warriors stories and tease out a timeline as they represent the two ends of the whole Volgan story arc (with the Steelhorn story being right at the end of the Volgan War). There are probably interesting facts in there that can be dropped in. It should then be possible to extract the details of their appearances. I'd also be interested in a section with some notable Volgans thrown in. Should prove a handy entry linking the two story strands - its certainly something I'd be interested in reading. I've expanded it a bit. I'd suggest moving the trivia secxtion from Invasion! over here. There is more that is needed but I'd need to (literally) dust off the back issues. (Emperor 14:46, 16 July 2006 (UTC)_

The Volgans aren't Russians, they're Volgans.

I've removed this sentence "In 2004, it was made explicitly clear the Volgans were Russians" as it's not as clear cut as implied. Savage's world is an alternate universe where Russia no longer exists, with the world history having created The Volgan Republic of Asia which then became known as simply The Volgan Republic. Russia as a state no longer exists in the Volg world, but the geographical location is the same as the one that we know as "Russia" in our universe.

So yes the characters originate from locations that we know as "Russia", however in the Savage universe they are not Russians but Volgans because they don't come from anywhere called Russia.

To turn it on its head, Vashkov looking at our world would say "That Putin fellow - he's not Russian, but Volgan. What is this Russia you speak of?" - and from his point of view he's correct.

Yes, they are Russians - but no, they aren't.

If the question is "Are/were the Volgans a thinly veiled metaphor for Russia with a Volgan badge whitewashed over the Hammer & Sickle in Prog 1? Yes, but that's already covered. Chaheel Riens (talk) 14:10, 15 June 2018 (UTC)
