To whom was the compensation paid?

According to the text VW paid a compensation of DM 3M to Tatra due to unauthorised use of their patents. The inventions were developed by Ringhoffer-Tatra a.s.. The (main) owner of the company was Hans von Ringhoffer. The native Germans were expelled from Czechoslovakia in 1946 and their property was nationalised. Ringhoffer family was regarded as Germans, so the Tatra plants were seized. Hans von Ringhoffer died in an NKVD camp.

As far as I know, the nationalising of the Tatra factory was not regarded as a legal action in West Germany. I suppose the compensation of DM 3M was paid to Ringhoffer family. Moreover, it is also possible that seizing of the German property did not consist on immaterial rights.--Gwafton (talk) 17:38, 26 September 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for your help. Funny that they speak about Ringhoffer-Tatra there - did the company exist with the same name in the west side of the iron curtain, after loosing its main factories in Czechoslovakia? Tatra

Some editors seem to be keen to emphasize the influence of Tatra on the Volkswagen Type 1. It's probably worth pointing out that Porsche's first air-cooled flat-four rear-engined car, the Type 32 for NSU, was designed in 1933. This was preceded by the Type 12, also beetle-shaped and rear-engined but with a water-cooled radial engine (insisted on by his client Zundapp) in 1931. The first and second prototypes of the experimental Tatra V570 (which preceded the much bigger T77 and T97 models) were also built in 1931 and 1933 respectively. IMHO, it is somewhat disingenuous to refer to Porsche's work following the "earlier" Tatra designs. Letdorf (talk) 00:18, 27 January 2011 (UTC).

Merger proposal

• Oppose: The Beetle and New Beetle are two completely different models and the Volkswagen Beetle article is plenty big enough, without merging in another article which is likely to get significantly larger with the launch of the second-generation New Beetle. On the banks of the Beetle

This: "[cylinders] arranged in two banks on either side of a single crankshaft..." should be: in a bank on either side...[The former suggested to me VW's W-12 engine, a scary thought. I'm pretty sure that currently shelved.] 173.210.125.42 (talk) 15:40, 16 July 2011 (UTC)

Type 1 / Super production overlap?

Was the Type 1 production continued throughout production of the Super Beetle? Why was the Super design with its larger storage space and more modern (and obviously lower drag) curved windshield abandoned and the old Type 1 style returned to production? (Assuming VW ever stopped their own production of it.) Bizzybody (talk) 17:56, 28 July 2011 (UTC)

And when did this happen? Because I always understood the Super (so-called) used the same dies as the original Type 1, just changed the suspension (to IFS IIRC) & got the 1600. Recent moves

I think that the move of this page from its long-standing Volkswagen Beetle title to Volkswagen Type 1 is in violation of WP:COMMONNAME. I agree completely with you. The problem is Volkswagen Beetle now redirects to the 2012 model and is blocked. It cannot be moved without admin assistance. I also reported this at WP:ANI hoping for a faster response. Δρ.Κ. ^{λόγοςπράξις} 01:30, 15 January 2012 (UTC)

I can do magic

While I admit it's poorly written & would need a cite, I imagine the change from green to red-gold refers to a change in regs & numbers of taxis being repainted. "Power," what power?

Manufacturing /Assembly sites is missing Heinola, Finland.

Finnish Volkswagen importer, VW-Auto, had chat with the factory about assembling Beetles in Finland in late 60s and they did assemble a small trial series in Plan-Sell works in Heinola during 1968-70 (48 cars)[1]. Only to notice that assembling Beetles was too expensive even when some of the import tax was avoided. Many of these cars are still left and restored.

Even the Finnish wiki-page is not counting this as manufacturing so just something which is nice to know on discussions. :)
