editIt is about a star college football player and top prospect for next years draft, it definitly should be an article. There are other articles about college football players that are worse than this and arent considered top prospects like he is--Yankees10 00:11, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
Orphaned references in Vontae Davis
editI check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Vontae Davis's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT⚡ 16:28, 11 May 2018 (UTC)
Retirement
editPeople are editing the page saying he retired. Nothing is official yet. Edits are premature Twitter reactions at this point and limited news reporting based on a teammates reports. P37307 (talk) 21:50, 16 September 2018 (UTC)
- ESPN talked to the coach and confirmed Davis pulling himself out of the game and saying "he was done". [1]P37307 (talk) 22:01, 16 September 2018 (UTC)
- @P37307: agreed. I did add a note that another Bills player made a statement to the press calling it a retirement (contained in the ESPN article as well as a few other places), but that no official statement had been made. I think that strikes a nice balance between full-on saying he's retired, and just stating he left the game (with no further explanation). A ton of sources (mostly non-RS but some places like Slate too) are stating he's retired even though no announcement has been made. cymru.lass (talk • contribs) 22:23, 16 September 2018 (UTC)
- @Cymru.lass:agreed. It does strike a nice balance. I also tagged the page with a current events tag so readers would know it could change rapidly and encourage editors to come to the talk page and discuss edits before being made. But, you know how things are in these fast changing, national interest events; I doubt there will be much be discussing here. ;) P37307 (talk) 22:34, 16 September 2018 (UTC)
- @P37307: that's for sure! I had a fun enough time dealing with IPs and newly-registered users adding unsourced statements before the RFPP for this article went through. Happy editing :) cymru.lass (talk • contribs) 22:44, 16 September 2018 (UTC)

Career statistics
edit@Gab4gab, Rockchalk717, and Rockchalk717: pinging all interested parties. I restored the career statistics section as the most recent version of it that got removed actually did provide a source. The source was right below the table; it's his stats records over on the official NFL page. I added a sentence to make the placement of the source more obvious since previously it was just a footnote with no explanation. cymru.lass (talk • contribs) 17:40, 17 September 2018 (UTC)
- @Cymru.lass and Rockchalk717: It's always possible I've missed something but - the first edit that added the source http://www.nfl.com/player/vontaedavis/79901/profile to the article was at 16:35 with a summary claiming it is the responsibility of the editor challenging content to find sources that support it. My edit, immediately following, removed a space before the 'url' in the citation. That was a dummy edit I used to provide an edit summary pointing out that when content is challenged and removed it is the responsibility of the editor restoring the content to provide citation(s) supporting it, per WP:BURDEN. I hope this helps add clarity. Gab4gab (talk) 18:37, 17 September 2018 (UTC)
- @Cymru.lass: I added the source with this edit 35 minutes after the dispute began. It wasn't there before hand which triggered the dispute.--Rockchalk717 18:44, 17 September 2018 (UTC)
- Ok, glad we got all that cleared up. I just wanted to make sure everyone saw that the content is now sourced and should not be re-removed. cymru.lass (talk • contribs) 20:13, 17 September 2018 (UTC)
