Why is this page here?

edit

First of all, we used to have just one page that tried to cover all aspects of the Voodoo religion(s). At some point, that page was split, then merged again (iirc), then split again, and now there are three articles about Voodoo religions and no umbrella article to cover all aspects of the tradition(s). This is why Voodoo is now a disambiguation page. The primary meaning of Voodoo is the religion, which is why this page starts with a brief descriptive paragraph about the religion with links to the three separate pages, rather than just a list of links.

Secondly, this page used to be titled Voodoo (disambiguation) but it was moved here after discussion here [1] and here [2]. (This arrangement was originally proposed as early as in 2004.[3]) Any further moves should be discussed first and consensus established, according to Wikipedia practice. - (), 04:13, 22 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

I think we should show a little respect here to the topic title here.
The issue is that Voodoo/Vodun etc is actually the primary meaning of the word and all the other disambiguations are calling themselves after it. It is not the same as 4 or 5 people have the same name etc.
I think the topic ought be about the subject with a link at top for a disambiguation page. I appreciate that on the Wikipedia folks may have a lot more affinity for a PCI video card chip or football teams than an ancient spiritualistic tradition but ... voodoo is what voodoo is first. They just did not think to trademark things back then.
So, my vote;

So, I take it that there is no objection then? --Lucyintheskywithdada (talk) 11:37, 27 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Since many incoming links are likely to address film and TV depictions of voodoo that do not accurately reflect any of the actual cultural practices, I have started Draft:Voodoo in popular culture, as a place to more comprehensively describe the tropes. BD2412 T 19:56, 26 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

I have gone ahead and moved this to mainspace. BD2412 T 06:07, 26 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Good for him. But this is a WP:DISAMBIGUATION page, which directs people to existing articles on Wikipedia. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 01:27, 25 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
