New Article

edit

After creating this I was going through some copy violations and saw that someone had been recreating this page after having it deleted several times. I'd been meaning to write something about WCBS-AM after seeing it empty a few days ago, I'm hoping this isn't mistaken for that anonymous users article. Rx StrangeLove 04:32, 31 Mar 2005 (UTC)

  • Thanks, I've followed this sad state of affairs as well, and I'm glad you've written a decent article on the topic. It's a good long-view history of the station, and now it's even categorized.--Pharos 04:41, 31 Mar 2005 (UTC)
  • Thanks for writing this. In the future please remember to cite your sources, though. Rhobite 05:54, Mar 31, 2005 (UTC)
    • You're welcome. Re:sources, good point....I'm pretty new at this so I'm still learning.

Fair use rationale for Image:Wcbs880logo.jpg

edit

Image:Wcbs880logo.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

New logo to be used

edit

WCBS (AM) changed its logo in 2018. Please replace the logo on the article with the one from the station's website. The new logo is located at [1]. J4lambert (talk) 12:54, 24 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

WCBS will be dropping its callsign at the end of the month.

edit

As it's now known, WCBS will be dropping its all news format at the end of the month. In addition, Good Karma Brands will be moving ESPN Radio's programs to WCBS and the call sign will be renamed WHSQ. This is significant as this means that the historic WCBS call letters will be retired from the AM band in NYC after 78 years. I feel like this should be mentioned because of the history associated with the station and its call sign. Godgundam10 (talk) 05:12, 17 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

i have mixed feelings about this, i know there is 1010 wins but will miss 880 news Jp33442 (talk) 14:37, 22 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Shouldn’t there be a split?

edit

There are separate pages for WFAN and WNBC-AM since the histories aren’t intertwined; should we split this into two separate articles, one discussing the current format and one about the history of WCBS-AM? It doesn’t seem practical to simply have redirected people to the new call sign. —ChrisP2K5 (talk) 14:44, 2 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Note that WFAN existed before it took over WNBC's frequency.
Whereas, the change from WCBS to WHSQ is just a standard change of format and call letters. All of those situations are handled in Wikipedia by a single page.
Consider, for example, the page on the current WKTU at 103.5, which includes the station's history as WTFM, WAPP, and WQHT, amongst other identities.
Likewise, the page on WINS-FM includes the station's history as WHOM, the original WKTU, and WXRK (K-Rock).

I also agree there should not be a split, even though most listeners consider WCBS and WHSQ to be separate stations, as the FCC considers WCBS and WHSQ to be the same station operating on the same license.
