Fair use rationale for File:News 8 2007.gif
editFile:News 8 2007.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
Requested move

No consensus to move. We probably need a dab page at the proposed name for both 'NewsChannel 8' and 'News Channel 8'. Vegaswikian (talk) 20:53, 30 April 2011 (UTC)
TBD TV → NewsChannel 8 — TBD TV was renamed back to NewsChannel 8 in February[1][2]. Relisting Andrewa (talk) 07:21, 19 April 2011 (UTC) 98.246.191.164 (talk) 17:30, 11 April 2011 (UTC)
- Oppose for now at least. NewsChannel 8 is ambiguous, being also used by WFLA-TV. Just as important, we don't automatically rename the article whenever the station publicists choose to rename the station, see the policy at WP:AT or an essay explaining the policy as it applies to this particular issue at WP:official names. So the nomination misses the point completely. Relisting to give another chance. Andrewa (talk) 07:21, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
- Comment: Actually, we do rename the station when it is renamed by the station "publicists". We don't sit on our hands. You can watch the station live here and see it is called "NewsChannel 8" and not "TBD TV" any longer. So, waiting serves no purpose other than to have incorrect information. - Neutralhomer • Talk • 10:56, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
- Not according to WP:AT, and particularly WP:COMMONNAME. Andrewa (talk) 13:33, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
- Comment For what it's worth, according to this article, the recently-dropped TBD TV name was only adopted in the summer of 2010 — and that it was NewsChannel 8 prior to then. Furthermore, it was NewsChannel 8 when it launched on October 7, 1991; other than the abortive TBD TV rebrand, I don't believe there have been any other name changes. No, it doesn't resolve the ambiguity (and in addition to WFLA-TV, there's KGW, KCCI, and Allbritton's own KTUL, as well as since-rebranded WTNH and WKBT-DT — and that's just based on a Google search) or the larger hasty renaming problem, but it does make you wonder how much "TBD TV" actually constitutes a common name as opposed to "NewsChannel 8" — and thus as to whether the move to TBD TV (which was technically from News Channel 8, although I've rarely if ever seen references to the network with that space) should have even occurred per our policies. --WCQuidditch ☎ ✎ 01:23, 20 April 2011 (UTC)

- Support: Station branding has changed on the website and on their stream of the channel. - Neutralhomer • Talk • 10:56, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
- Agree that the branding has changed. But to automatically follow this would be a rather significant shift in policy, don't you think? Again, see WP:COMMONNAME. Andrewa (talk) 13:33, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
- No, not really. Do it all the time in WP:WPRS and WP:TVS. - Neutralhomer • Talk • 13:59, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
- Interesting. But this practice does seem to clash with the overall Wikipedia policy. See Discussion below. Andrewa (talk) 20:56, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
- "Where an official name exists for the subject of a Wikipedia article, this name is ipso facto the correct title for the article." NewsChannel 8 is the official name. TBD TV isn't. It isn't as though this cable channel is permanently WTBD-TV with a changing on-air brand, in which case, WTBD-TV should be the permanent name. This is a cable channel. When the SciFi Channel became SyFy, so did the Wikipedia article. Cable channels get to decide what their official names are, not the FCC or some other agency. 98.246.191.164 (talk) 16:29, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
- That explains a lot... The full quotation is New editors often assume that, where an official name exists for the subject of a Wikipedia article, this name is ipso facto the correct title for the article, and that if the article is under another title then it should be moved. In many cases this is contrary to Wikipedia practice and policy. (Wikipedia:Official names, lead section.)
- In other words, the assumption that where an official name exists for the subject of a Wikipedia article, this name is ipso facto the correct title for the article is in many cases false. Andrewa (talk) 20:35, 19 April 2011 (UTC)

- Oppose - The name "NewsChannel 8" is a brand that is currently used not only by this station, but also by WTNH in Hartford, WFLA in Tampa Bay, KTUL in Oklahoma, KGW in Portland, WKBT in LaCrosse, and probably several other stations. The proposed name would create ambiguity where no ambiguity exists now. Also, TV stations normally use call letters, not promotional brands. TBD still uses the "TBD" name on their website, so that name is not invalid. However, if TBD TV has decided to disassociate itself from a set of station call letters, maybe the content needs to be in Allbritton Communications (the name of the parent company). More discussion is needed. --Orlady (talk) 04:15, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
- Support: The channel is officially known as "NewsChannel 8" once more, leaving the name of the article as is is more confusing due to the article's contradictions to the references to the change to NewsChannel 8, but the article itself continuing to be titled "TBD TV". I am providing a link to an article from The Washington Post's website that might help straighten out this matter. [3] TVtonightOKC (talk) 17:15, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
- As an aside, the argument that changing the article name back to NewsChannel 8 may be moot and meritless, as NewsChannel 8 for the Washington, D.C. regional cable news channel, and over-the-air television stations broadcasting on virtual channel 8, calling themselves as "NewsChannel 8" have no real similarity whatsoever, the name for the regional news channel is the official channel name as it is a cable-only network. Over-the-air stations who call themselves "NewsChannel 8", only use it as a branding and may not use it as an exclusive branding, as some television stations may use separate on-air brandings for the station's entertainment programming and news programming, and no station's news/station branding is permanent in any way. Cable channels do not change their branding, they change their name, and that is in the official sense. Also, if you type in "NewsChannel 8" on Wikipedia's search bar, it does not go to a disambiguation page referencing stations that carry the NewsChannel 8 branding, but the phrase redirects to the TBD TV article. Discussion
editThere's an underlying issue here that apparently Wikipedia:WikiProject Radio Stations and Wikipedia:WikiProject Television Stations have adopted a convention of automatically renaming an article whenever the official name changes, see above.
There may already be a local naming convention documenting this, I'm still looking, but it hasn't been referred to above.
One of three things should happen:
- Document the practice as a local convention if it's not already documented.
- Improve the linking to it and awareness of it among the members of the Wikiprojects if the local convention already exists.
- Clarify the practice of the Wikiprojects so as to be in step with Wikipedia's overall policy... That is, give up the local convention.
The third option is not as radical as it might sound. I'm guessing that the moves concerned are mostly already within Wikipedia policy, see [4]: This at first appeared uncontroversial, as currently broadcasting stations are normally referred to by their current callsigns, that is, common English usage quickly follows the official change.
So the change would mainly be just to bring the rationales for such moves into line with overall policy. However the decisions in a small number of moves would also be affected. Andrewa (talk) 22:29, 19 April 2011 (UTC)

editBrianne is such an improvement on this talk show. I could never watch it before..now I am a devout fan. Her ability to conduct an interesting interview is astounding... as a journalist I find her mind so sharp that she has a problem keeping up with the flow of words.
