Brightness reference?
editI checked the CDS lookup for the Renson and Catalano (2001) reference of this sentence:
- It fluctuates between magnitudes 5.27 and 5.29 in the Hipparcos band over 1.38 days.
but it doesn't find an entry for WZ Col or HD 38170. I'm unclear where the data came from. Praemonitus (talk) 01:46, 15 September 2022 (UTC)
- Wrong Renson? It is in the General Catalog of Am and Ap stars, although I don't see any mention of the variability range. The GCVS shows it, which should be a good enough reference. Or the VSX. The original source is the Hipparcos mission, and I don't think there has been anything significant published since. This hopefully will link direct to the VizieR database entry (interesting that 5.275 is rounded to 5.27). Lithopsian (talk) 14:34, 15 September 2022 (UTC)
- Okay, thanks. It caught my eye because of the use of "Hipparcos band". That's probably not going to be too meaningful to most readers. Praemonitus (talk) 17:29, 15 September 2022 (UTC)
Period
editFrom the TESS data (and to a lesser extent the Hipparcos data) it looks like the period for this star might be 2×1.38 days, rather than 1.38 days.PopePompus (talk) 22:54, 15 September 2022 (UTC)
- The General Catalogue of Variable Stars doesn't list a period for this star. Praemonitus (talk) 01:56, 16 September 2022 (UTC)
- VSX lists a period of 1.38 days and this has been generally accepted since its discovery, but this paper could be used as a source to support the doubled period.[1] Lithopsian (talk) 12:52, 16 September 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for finding that reference! I've replaced my original light curve plot with a version folded with the double period. PopePompus (talk) 18:33, 16 September 2022 (UTC)
