Terrorist
editSomeone just posted a note about inserting the word "terrorist" smack-dab in the first sentence at the WP Palestine page. Well, the IP actually has it right. Per WP:AVOID, or more specifically, WP:TERRORIST, we can't simply claim a person is a terrorist no matter who says he is. In this case, Israelis claim he's a terrorist as they do with Arafat, and many others, but this is clearly biased. Just as it would be biased to say Zwaiter was a "freedom fighter" or fighting in the "resistance against Israel", or something else along those lines. We could, however, put in the second sentence that Israelis viewed Zwaiter as a terrorist for his role in the Munich Massacre. This is all we could do, lead-wise—someone could start a section on his role in Munich and the aftermath and discuss this terrorist bit there. --Al Ameer son (talk) 16:31, 11 March 2009 (UTC)
- WP:TERRORIST is a style guideline, and itself admits of exceptions. IronDuke 16:41, 11 March 2009 (UTC)
- Way to wikilawyer there. 92.17.225.113 (talk) 18:45, 11 March 2009 (UTC)
- How is this not an exception? I don't know much on Zwaiter (nothing before today actually except that he was from Nablus), but from what I read in the article, his participation in the Black September movement was alleged by the Mossad and the Italian police, while his role was vehemently denied by the PLO. There's not even evidence (at least in the article) of his role in any terror-related activities. Nonetheless, he is claimed to be a terrorist so we must write that he was viewed as such and by who views him as such. I re-added the terrorist bit, by the way, just in a more fair and NPOV manner. --Al Ameer son (talk) 16:52, 11 March 2009 (UTC)
Assassinated vs Executed
editI think the most accurate term is assassinated, which Israel and the PLO certainly agree was the case, albeit for different reasons. Executed could mean he was captured and killed. If "assassinated" is against WP Guidelines (which I need proof of), then we could use a diff word, but not executed. Cheers! --Al Ameer son (talk) 05:55, 30 March 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, assassinated is as pretty NPOV as one can get in these kinds of situations. I don't why the IP changed it. Joshdboz (talk) 07:08, 30 March 2009 (UTC)
