Notable players

edit

How notable are some of these players when there are not even first names shown with them. A notable player is one that everyone (both supporters of the club and wider supporters of the game) should instantly recognise.

These lists just come across as lists of players - they should be trimmed down or moved off to their own page - it would make the article far better. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.102.17.150 (talk) 15:09, 1 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Once notable, always notable. Whilst I am not convinced by the value of such lists, I don't think the fact that people wouldn't instantly recognise a name from the past as evidence that they were not significant in their own era.GordyB (talk) 15:14, 1 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

But Gordy, the trouble is that these lists - whether you accept the player is notable or not, are incomplete. It gives the article a half finished quality that it doesn't deserve. It would be better to either delete the names which are incomplete and/or move the lists to its own page - as you see with other teams in other sports.

It just strikes me that someone sat around and thought of a list of names, some notable by any method, some just not. For example Christopher "Chris" Perry (#1/#6) circa-1990 - OK player, not notable by any stretch of the imagination and with no link to any Wikipedia page or other WWW site, it just doesn't have a meaningful presence. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.102.17.150 (talk) 23:10, 1 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

This list is so ridiculously massive it makes you wonder if there has ever been a Trinity player who isn't notable! I'm going to remove the lot and replace with a link to Category:Wakefield Trinity Wildcats rugby league players. Dancarney (talk) 15:59, 2 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

With regard to "How notable are some of these players when there are not even first names shown with them"… for most of the 20th century it was customary to show only the players’ surnames in matchday programmes, only being suffixed by the first letter of the forename if there were two players with the same surname, but this didn’t prevent these players from winning the Challenge Cup or international caps.

Perhaps the ‘Players earning International Caps while at Wakefield Trinity’, ‘Challenge Cup & Championship Winning Players’, and ‘Other Notable Players…’ sections should be moved to be sections of a separate ‘List of Wakefield Trinity Wildcats Players’. Then the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats wouldn’t have “a half finished quality”.

The problem with deleting everything is that along with other red links, Challenge Cup winners and internationals such as; ‘W. J. D. Howes (#12) (1946 Challenge Cup Winner), won caps for Wales while at Wakefield 1948/49, 1949/50 ?-Caps, won caps for British Empire XIII while at Wakefield 1947/48 France’ and ‘Robert "Bob" Kelly [6] (Ireland) (#10/#11), won caps for Other Nations while at Wakefield 1955 England, France, won caps for Great Britain while at Wakefield 1955-56? France’ are completely obliterated. I do intend to create articles for these players but up until 6-months ago, there wasn’t even an article for Derek Turner. I think that your suggestion of a separate page entitled something like List of Wakefield Trinity Wildcats players would be the best solution. This kind of approach has been used for plenty of association football clubs - see List of Gillingham F.C. players, which reached featured article status. Dancarney (talk) 21:30, 3 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
Definitely cut & paste to a list-article instead of completely expunging all that work from existence. I've already done the same with the Great Britain national rugby league team's list.--Jeff79 (talk) 18:20, 17 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Ray Price

edit

Attention: Wakefield Trinity article contributors!! I'm currently trying to track down details of Ray Price's stint at Wakefield Trinity for use in his article. If any of the Wakefield article contributors could help that would be hugely appreciated! -- User:CumberlandsAshes81 14 September 2006.

Changed importance to High to match other SL clubs.

Surely if a player had died then he is no longer on the club's books? Zacitty (talk) 16:36, 13 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Did Isaac Cole play in the 1910 Yorkshire Cup final?

edit

The Isaac Cole article states that he played for Wakefield Trinity in the 1910 Yorkshire Cup final, but the 1910 Yorkshire Cup article doesn't mention. Did Isaac Cole play in the 1910 Yorkshire Cup final? Best regards DynamoDegsy (talk) 10:21, 14 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Page title needs updating

edit

This page's title has needed updating ever since the club took the decision to ditch 'Wildcats' from their name and return to being Wakefield Trinity once again. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 37.152.217.43 (talk) 20:30, 28 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

This is an issue as different names can be found as their website http://www.wakefieldwildcats.co.uk/ and the chairman saying they want to be known as Wakefield Wildcats.Theanonymousentry (talk) 09:03, 11 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
Is there a history of the name of the club?Theanonymousentry (talk) 07:32, 14 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Stop muckin' about and change it to the historical name, i.e. Wakefield Trinity. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 51.9.93.92 (talk) 18:16, 21 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
The club website refers to it as the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats, so while they've said they're going to drop it they haven't yet. Rehnn83 Talk 08:26, 22 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Proposed rename

edit

Should this article be renamed Wakefield Trinity to conform with other rugby league club articles on Wikipedia such as Warrington Wolves, Wigan Warriors and Castleford Tigers etc..? Bwfcwarrior (talk) 13:52, 18 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Yes as that appears to be our MOS. Was moved in late November last year without discussion to this page from Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.Theanonymousentry (talk) 12:40, 19 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
Agree. The current title is contrary to established style. --Mkativerata (talk) 22:15, 19 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
How long do we leave this before moving it, or requesting a move?Theanonymousentry (talk) 13:51, 20 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
Usually 7 days from opening the move request. Keith D (talk) 14:08, 20 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
Can WP:IAR not be cited to move earlier if consensus points to a move being the preference? Bwfcwarrior (talk) 18:33, 20 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
Probably if you are looking at snow consensus. Keith D (talk) 22:25, 20 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
It's been a few days since the last comment here. Is it time to ask an administrator to move the page or is there not enough of a consensus yet in other people's opinion? Bwfcwarrior (talk) 22:54, 25 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
I also support a move. Either ask an admin to do it, or start a formal move process that takes 7 days. Mattlore (talk) 23:03, 25 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
I'm still learning the ropes here tbh, do I go to WP:RM, or do I need to stick a template on this talk page? Bwfcwarrior (talk) 23:08, 25 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
Yes, either follow the steps at Wikipedia:Requested_moves#Requesting_a_single_page_move, or find an admin and ask them directly on their talk page if they will move it based on this discussion. Mattlore (talk) 23:11, 25 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, think I'll seek an admin as a further 7 day discussion seems unnecessary now. Bwfcwarrior (talk) 23:17, 25 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
I'm happy to move (and have) based on this discussion and WP:COMMONNAME. Nthep (talk) 12:32, 26 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
