I read about this midcentury writer in a section of the mentioned biography of Weldon Kees and he seems like someone who might be worthy of his own biography if enough could be found out about him. It would be great if more detail could be built up through collaboration here. Stumps (talk) 04:03, 26 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Author of several books, one of which was translated at least into French. He is mentioned frequently in Henry Miller's autobiographical writings as he was a friend of Miller's and someone whose natural talent Miller held in high regard. He was at various times closely connected with several central figures of the midcentury generation of writers and artists, such as Weldon Kees. Stumps (talk) 01:37, 10 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Originally had the following text in the article "His father, Burt Winslow, died when Walker was two years old."[1] based on the findagrave site information, but in the largely autobiographical 'If a Man Be Mad' the author writes of memories of his father beyond age two. Some clarification and another source is needed. Stumps (talk) 03:16, 22 December 2022 (UTC) Stumps (talk) 03:16, 22 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
On p.4 of 'If a man...' he talks of his memories of his father at age 3, but then goes on to describe an accidental gunshot in the father's office which killed him, and then the arrival of a step-father when the protagonist was 5 years old. Stumps (talk) 03:19, 22 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
I've restored a modified version. The autobiographical account does not vary greatly from the details provided by the grave, and essentially confirms that his father died when Walker was very young. The memory stated to be from age three could easily have been either because he was unsure of the precise dates, or because perhaps he, or an editor, thought that a memory from age three sounded more plausible than a memory from age two. For completeness I'll note here that the findagrave page for Burt O Winslow shows a photograph of the tombstone and provides the following information: "BIRTH 22 Apr 1867; DEATH 19 Oct 1907; BURIAL Lake View Cemetery, Seattle, King County, Washington, USA" Stumps (talk) 06:53, 23 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
