editIn my edit of 09:33, 14 October 2005 as 62.0.142.110, I was not able to exactly determine the date of Lantz's marriage — IMDB lists it at 1940, but the Woody Woodpecker article claims it is 1941, probably based on Lantz's obituary in the LA Times as linked from davidbrady.com. Given that the text of the LA Times article is not even self-consistent (as noted in Woody Woodpecker), I sway towards 1940 but have no means to corroborate it. TheGoblin 14:57, 14 October 2005 (UTC)
ethnic background
editLantz is a German name. If he is Italian, than it is only on his mother's side. According to my family, Walter and my Great-grandmother (who's maiden name was Lantz) were cousins, and either their fathers or grandfathers (who were brothers) came over from the Alsace-Lorraine region in what is now France (but with a large German population), with Walter's father/grandfather going to Pennsylvania, and my great-grandmother's father/grandfather coming to Nova Scotia in Canada. That's what I've been told anyway. --JFred 00:25, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
- Ok, I did a search, and apparently Walter's father changed the family name from Lanza to Lantz. Also, everything else I've read says the same as this article, which contradicts everything my family has been told. I'd hate to believe that we've been lied to. I also heard that there was a biography written about Walter. Does anyone know if the biography jives with this article? --JFred 00:53, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
Good article, but ...
editoverlinked and overheaded, IMO. Woody doesn't neet to be linked at every mention – certainly not more than once per paragraph. Rlquall 12:57, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
Racist?
editI found the guy pretty racist, here is a link to a cartoon by him http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QyjnXZFxwNQ
In the year 2021
editI reverted this addition:
- In 2021 Rafael Hanna, Joshua Barbera Are Going To Make Walter Lantz Cartoon's For Studio Maker Brownsville On Nickelodeon
because it seems fairly suspicious:
- badly written;
- rather far in the future to plan for;
- matches a gibberish edit to Chilly Willy by the the same IP
But it might be legitimate (just badly written), so I'm saving it here. —Toby Bartels 00:41, 8 October 2006 (UTC)
Marriage Date and Apocryphal origin story
editIt has been noted on many other websites that this Woody Woodpecker origin story must have been made up because the dates just don't jibe. Also, IMDB is not the best source for information because much like Wikipedia, it is open source.
