Fair use rationale for Image:Warcry (band).jpg
editImage:Warcry (band).jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Why is CryWar in the septet category?

Name Change
editThe announcement on their website about the name change has disappeared, and at the top there is neither "CryWar" nor WarCry." Should the article be moved back to "WarCry"?--Felipe.posada (talk) 00:09, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
- Hahahaha, in es.wp we falled in trap too :D. December 28th is a day for jokes (Massacre_of_the_Innocents#Feast_days). WarCry was kidding ;D. --Lin linao (talk) 17:05, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
So, why don't you change the title of the article?--Greek2 (talk) 14:40, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
- I can't, redirect had a history, but I requested it to an admin ;). Lin linao (talk) 17:22, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
Ahh, okay. I understand,I think. But why didn't you answer me in Spanish?--Greek2 (talk) 21:01, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
Logo
editOur friend at 156.34.x has a point about the way the WarCry logo has been used so far in this article. There's been a heckuva long and rather contentious discussion at Template_talk:Infobox_Musical_artist#Logos about the inclusion of logos in articles about musical acts, and though there is still a lot of divisiveness on the issue there are certain valid points, and even some consensus, that has come out of it. One thing that has been agreed on is that logos definitely don't belong in the "Name" field of the infobox. The band's name in plain text, plus a free or fair-use picture of them, provides identification. In fact, the wording of Template:Infobox Musical artist#Name has been change to that effect: "The name of the group or artist ("the act") in plain text only (my emphasis). Logos and other graphics are to be avoided in this field in accordance with WP:ACCESS and WP:FAIR. This field is mandatory." A logo also doesn't belong in the "Img" field, as its purpose is for a free or fair use picture of the artist. See Template:Infobox Musical artist#Img: "an image of the act (my emphasis), sufficiently clear for display at 220 pixels' width." Since you already have a nice fair-use image of WarCry in the infobox of this article, you don't need the logo for further identification.
Further to that, there is the question of what exactly constitutes a "logo" in terms of a musical act, and to what degree a logo may or may not be notable. The general consensus seems to be that if the logo is notable, and verifiable, then the proper place for it is in the article body alongside a referenced discussion of its significance. This allows the image to add some meaningful informational content to the article, rather than just serving as decoration. Without critical commentary then it is likely that the use of the image fails WP:NONFREE and that the logo probably isn't notable. Note that it is at best unclear whether the provisions of WP:LOGOS (which allows logos to be used in most cases strictly for identification) applies to the logos of musical acts. WP:NONFREE (a policy of which WP:LOGOS is a subset of guidelines) only specifies that "Team and corporate (my emphasis) logos [may be used] for identification."
However, one point on which WP:LOGOS is clear: "Avoid using a logo in any way that creates an impression that the purpose of its inclusion is to promote something. Generally, logos should be used only when the logo is reasonably familiar (or when the logo itself is of interest for design or artistic reasons)." The "reasonably familiar" bit may be debatable here, but one can certainly say that WarCry's logo isn't nearly as reasonably familiar as, say, The Rolling Stones or Kiss logos, or the logo of a sports team or corporation. And if the WarCry logo is of interest for design or artistic reasons, then those reasons should be discussed in the article using referenced commentary (ie. Who designed it? In what context is it used? Does it have some symbolic meaning? Does it have any cultural, historical, or artistic significance?). Where there is no commentary at all (as in this case), or simply "this is the band's logo," then it creates the impression that the logo's inclusion is promotional (ie. this edit).
On those grounds I support 156.34.x's efforts to keep the logo image out of the article, unless someone develops a section about the band's artistic style and graphics in which case it may be worthwhile to include it. But until then, we must err on the side of WP:FAIR and keep it out. Again, to quote WP:LOGO: "In the case of any dispute, the burden of proof is on the person who wishes to include the logo." If you would like to see some examples of how notable logos can be used add to the informational quality of articles, see this list. Remember, when it comes to notability, show, don't tell. --IllaZilla (talk) 06:24, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

- I'm here to ask for your help on moving a band's name "WarCry (band)" to WarCry (This is a desambigution page), I know this might look meaningless to you (all), for the simple reason that there are some other articles with similar name, but these are kind of less important (Please don't take it the wrong way), one it's about a game, other it's about a website, the other one it's about a Salvation Army newspaper, and there are two more which their names have nothing to do with WarCry. But as you can see the newspaper article (Which, by the way it's called War Cry, instead of WarCry) is a little short, so are the other two. The disambiguation page it's named War cry, I think that the band's article, which is the largest one, should be named WarCry. Please help me merge this article into just WarCry.
- As in Iron Maiden, there are several articles with that name but they decided that the most important one was the band. That's what I'm suggesting you to do, that's what I need you to help me with. I'd really appreciate your help, thanks. Rockk3r (talk to me please) 14:11 21 March 2008 (UTC)
- Many people have little or no interest in pop music and to them this pop music band is likeliest not the great dominant meaning of "war cry" (ignoring cases and spaces). To me here in England with no interest in pop music it first means "a battle cry" or the Salvation Army's newspaper. Leave things alone with War cry as the disambig page. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 15:10, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
- Hey Anthony!!, sorry about this, but you are really dumb, why you say that many people don't like pop? I don't like it either, but if you don't know how to read, it's a "POWER METAL!!!!!" band, so please don't call it pop if you don't know about it. And I can give you some of their music, cause it's obviuos that you don't know them, I pretty sure you'll like their music, if you like good music. Please help me, and stop thinking that it's a pop band. Thanks. Rockk3r (talk to me please) 17:40 22 March 2008 (UTC)
- No personal attacks! Jeez. His comments apply no matter what kind of music they sing. They could be country-western, and it wouldn't rebut his intuition that this use of "WarCry" is largely unknown (and hence not more important than the other topics). I'm a Yankee, and I entirely agree with Anthony Appleyard here. At any rate, you could post it at WP:RM and on the talk pages. Admins will implement whatever consensus might emerge from requested moves. This page is primarily for non-controversial stuff, like correcting cut-and-paste moves. - I can not see any cut and paste needing correction here. Probably this is a case for Wikipedia:Requested moves and should be closed here. Nabla (talk) 20:26, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
- I agree with Anthony there is no real point in moving/renaming the page, WarCry should be left as a disambiguation page considering that WarCry (in that particular lower/upper case and no space format) can refer to multiple things. --Sin Harvest (talk) 08:37, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
IMO the band article should remain disambiguated by (band), particularly to distinguish it from the well-known War Cry (Salvation Army newspaper). Andrewa (talk) 09:45, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

Comments
edit- Individual years (like 2001 in the lead) don't need to be wikilinked.
- The lead could do with some resorting. Ideally the first paragraph will tell you why they're notable, or else contain a really basic introduction to the band (these are the two common layouts). Check out some of the other band FAs for examples.
- Sentences like "WarCry has released five studio albums, one live album which received gold certification, a demo in 1997, not considered an official work, and has finished recording their upcoming sixth studio album, Revolución." - are really tricky to read, with all the commas etc. Try and break them up (maybe into two sentences) and see if it reads better.
- Sources in English (like ref 1) don't need the language specified (it's assumed).
- "earning a growing fan base and having won numerous awards in that country, as well as Latin America." - make this a new sentence, and check the tense it's written in.
- "On the middle of 2001" - on --> in
- "Most of them were written in English on the 1990s, such as "Luz Del Norte", under the name "North n' Light"" - change on the 1990s to in the 1990s. Also, was "North n' Light" the English translation of the song title? And was the song in English with a Spanish title? Needs clarification.
- "they all dealed mostly with epic stories, immortal warriors, tales, and personal experiences." - "they dealt..." Also, fix the really long sentence here.
- "let know that the band didn't count on them anymore" - huh? I have no idea what this is saying.
So yeah, as you can see this could really do with some more clarifying of the prose. Some areas are very confusing and unclear. Try and do the best you can on the entire article in terms of copyediting and I'll try and add some more comments in the coming days. —Giggy 07:56, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
