Why are some birds called warblers?
editI don't understand why some birds have "warbler" in their names and others do not. That more than one kind of bird has "warbler" in the name suggests to me that this is a way of classifying birds. If this is a classification scheme, is the scheme archaic? The first (v.) definition of the word "warble" in Wiktionary is "to modulate a tone's frequency" and most other definitions are similar; thus one might presume that birds with "warbler" in their name would have a song with a varied frequency. Do all warblers have such a song? Are some birds that have warbling songs not called warblers? If so, why not? Is there more than one criterion that one would use to decide whether a bird must be some kind of warbler? Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Anajilly (talk • contribs) 09:10, 10 February 2014 (UTC)
