If you consider the following quote applicable for the most notable/ledgendary, then here you go:

      Operation Buccaneer directly targeted release groups. One of the more famous groups
whose members were prosecuted as a result of the bust was called Razor1911. They have been
around since the early 1980's, when they gained fame cracking video games for the Commodore
64 computer system (“Razor 1911”). Razor1911 was referred to by the D.O.J as “the Oldest
Game Software Piracy Ring on the Internet.”

But I don't think it's very suitable. The original sentence isn't very neutral and differs in time. I think it will be hard to even find a quote. I suggest to rewrite it.

The fact they have a wikipedia page means they are famous/notable. I don't think you need to look for references for this. --Ondertitel (talk) 16:26, 1 June 2010 (UTC)

Both the commodore 64 era & DOS era existed together, warez groups were more responsible for the trading of warez though BBS systems which used fidonet like networking, no relation to the internet at all, the creators of the internet came out publicly & said they were influenced by BBS users & the warez groups that traded software for these systems. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.217.212.227 (talk) 06:38, 2 May 2012 (UTC)

Different kind of release groups

Forms of piracy/filesharing outside of “The Scene” are often collectively referred to as P2P
Aside from the release groups in “The Scene”, there are many others that reside elsewhere:
• Release Groups “half way” between Scene and P2P
• Private Tracker Internal Release Groups
• Publicly Tracked Torrent Release Groups
• DDL Forum/Blog Release Groups
• Usenet/Newsgroup Release Groups
• DC++ Release Groups
..this content trickles down as well

Summary Improvements

The summary should be improved to explicitly state the association of warez groups with multimedia piracy. As-is, one needs to either read linked articles or between the lines in Description. The article itself is also littered with jargon. 82.130.43.87 (talk) 19:40, 16 March 2019 (UTC)
