Kathryn Koob

It seems user Keyburg is set on putting in hostle information on Kathryn Koob. I frankly don't have a position on Ms. Koob, nor do I know if the information is correct. However, I reverted the changes for the following reasons:

  • The comments were uncited. When dealing with a living person, when you say hostile things about them, you best well back them up. See WP:BIO
  • The content, even if true, is not relavant to Wartburg College, which is what the article is about. The section of the article is a list of famous alumni -- there is no need to get into any detail other than a brief description of why they are famous. The fact that someone gained or lost weight is of no bearing on the subject of Wartburg College, or why the person is a famous alumni, for example.

The article is not about Kathryn Koob, it's about Wartburg College. But I'm not interested in getting into an edit war. I'll let others revert the changes if they see fit. --Rehcsif 04:52, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

  • All the same, I expanded the Katheryn Koob entry. It stated she was released in 1980. Wrong. She was released on the day of Reagan's inaugural in January 1981. I also mentioned her teaching the course entitled Reconciliation with a link to a source. --Dbackeberg 13:11 16 June 2006 (EDT)
Good edits. My comments above were relating to uncited, defamatory info (which is now removed, thankfully). The info you added was both cited and relavant to Wartburg. --Rehcsif 18:01, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

"selective" four year private college

I don't know where the term "selective" is defined, but in terms of private, four-year, liberal arts colleges, associated with the ELCA, in Iowa, Luther is arguably more "selective" by analysis of average incoming test scores and GPA. Perhaps the word should be dropped as its meaning is nebulous at best. I'm yanking the word "selective" from the first sentence. If others wish to replace it, please explain why it should remain. I'm also correcting some awkward grammar in the first few paragraphs.

From Wartburg's website: Founded in 1852, Wartburg College is a nationally recognized selective four-year liberal arts college of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. --Rehcsif 17:11, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
"Selective" is the category the Carnegie Foundation used to describe Wartburg College. The terms are based on ACT/SAT average scores. Below are the definitions.
Inclusive (I)—students had a 25th percentile ACT-equivalent score below 18.
Selective (S)—students had a 25th percentile ACT-equivalent score from 18 to 21.
More Selective (MS)—students had a 25th percentile ACT-equivalent score greater than 21. 170.76.211.103 (talk) 16:08, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
It's good to know that these terms have an objective meaning. However, the average reader is going to interpret it as a general subjective term when used in a sentence such as this and therefore treat is as advertising fluff. I think it would be better to leave the term out of the opening sentence and then in a separate sentence, not necessarily in the lede, state that it is "selective" according to the Carnegie Foundation, with an appropriate link and reference. President

Someone put the pres. of the college is Osama, so someone should really change that.

Hm..funny

So I saw that "Osama Bin Laden" part under president and a sentence about how "Minority are favored..expect a lot of scholarships...while White....will receive some..if they have the right name"??? So I decided to fix that, and Osama Bin Laden seems to be invisible, and the sentence about minority is gone...I didn't even delete that.

Sports

Wartburg has one of the two top NCAA III wrestling teams in the country. I think this should be put into the article. http://www.d3wrestle.com/?p=4330

Tuition and finances section

Hello, Is there a reason why the tuition and finances section is there? I just don't think it should be placed on the article. Plus, it doesn't have sources to back it up. If you look on other college and university articles, not much is put on there about the tuition and finances. How about replacing it with a list of the buildings with a description, or something useful. Just tell me what you think! Thanks, Corkythehornetfan(talk) 15:08, 20 March 2014 (UTC)
