No reference is given for the claim that CV is the home to 90% of Washington's wine industry. What is this based on, where are these numbers from, and how old is this info? This claim doesn't sound true, although I don't know off-hand that it is false so I won't delete it until I can find numbers proving it is wrong. Any insight would be welcome. --WineCrab (talk) 23:48, 22 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

WA wineries notable enough for articles

edit

For anyone feeling ambitious. I don't know if we want to do a separate list page or integrate the list in this article once the articles are created. (Some have already been created) AgneCheese/Wine 07:30, 17 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Some of these produce wines I've enjoyed. Some of these produce wines I'll never purchase again. Some of these have been sold and are now part of ugly (or beautiful, if you are so inclined) conglomerates. And some are clearly notable wineries (whose wine I can only occasionally afford). Then there is my favorite, which doesn't even make your list (which is a good thing, since that means I can afford their wine for another year until they're discovered). But I must ask, what are the criteria for inclusion on this list? Skål - Williamborg (Bill) 03:03, 3 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Under Wikipedia's notability criteria, the availability of independent, 3rd party sources that provide more than trivial coverage (something beyond a wine review in a newspaper) is a key indicator of notability. An example of this typing of sourcing would be Paul Gregutt's book on Washington Wines which provides more than trivial details about these wineries and can be used as a source to establish notability. This list is by no means exhaustive (and your favorite winery may certainly qualify under Wikipedia's guidelines) but is a start. AgneCheese/Wine 03:09, 3 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
Appreciate your quick response - WP:NOT! strikes again. Thought about contributing an article covering, say, Leonetti (even though their last bottle went bad and I can no longer afford their recent vintages, they merit an article, even by WP:NN standards). But I fear that Wikipedia motivates one to spend too much time writing about wine; not enough time drinking it. So this evening I'll contribute my bit to the economic well being of the workers at the wineries instead. Skål - Williamborg (Bill) 03:44, 3 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
