Improving The Article
This website is good for finding out about bins but would be unbelievably more helpful if it contained the type of plastics that bins can be made from and how they are industrially made. --195.92.168.170 3 July 2005 22:46 (UTC)
Thanks for your appreciation of the article. It's taken a bit of work but a few members of the Wikipedia community, myself included, have been able to turn it into a useful resource. I would first like to ask you to please refrain from posting comments in the actual article, it confuses readers and diminishes the quality of said article: direct all comments to this talk page.
I understand your concerns and it's great to have people suggest new content. There are unfortunately very few people editing this article at the moment, so our knowledge base is limited. If this article is to be improved, awareness needs to be raised.
If anyone reading this has the requested information or any additional information on the subject, please just take a few minutes of your time to contribute to the article. --Author of Dustbin
History
My four-year-old would like to know: what did people do before they invented trash cans? Any ideas? (That might be a nice addition to the article.) Asbruckman (talk) 03:02, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
"Circular file"
- There doesn't appear to be any reason why "Circular file" should be considered jocular, a Google search brings up many serious references, if it IS jocular please state why.
This is ridiculous. View Am. Heritage ed. 4 definition of "file:"
- A container, such as a cabinet or folder, for keeping papers in order.
The joke of "circular file," is, of course, that the papers are not being "filed" at all. —Casey J. Morris 21:56, 16 October 2005 (UTC)
Those crazy Americans. Sorry about the misunderstanding.
After all that someone slightly more sensible than I deleted it altogether. —Casey J. Morris 22:28, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
As well as 'Circular File' it might be worth adding another redirect for 'Round File' (as used by Moulder in the X-Files)
trash bag
Does anyone know if trash bag is defined in the wiki dictionary and if so, how to link to the dictionary definition? That is probably a better solution to defining the term then not having a wikipedia link.
Article name/localization of terms
Since the term trash can is somewhat exclusive to North America, wouldn't it be a bit better to have the article name as "waste bin" or something along the lines of that? --/ɛvɪs/ /tɑːk/ /kɑntɹɪbjuʃənz/ 16:32, May 28, 2005 (UTC)
- It appears that there are significant word usage and cultural differences between trash/waste in North America and the British Isles. Further discussion, as well as clarifying typical word usage by location, would be very helpful for this article. Jodi.a.schneider (talk) 13:02, 13 November 2009 (UTC)
Litter Basket (Band)
Could someone start an article over the Austrian band Litter Basket? --Scotteh 11:08, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
- Here is their MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/litterbasket. Official site: http://www.litter-basket.com/
pop culture references
I rather liked the pop culture references. How can we have an article about waste bins without oscar the grouch? I'd prefer to put those back. What does everyone else think? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Asbruckman (talk • contribs) 02:40, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
placing pictures
Oscar isn't showing up where I was hoping he would. Can someone please fix it? Also, if you could show me what page to read about how to do this right, that'd be great. Thanks! Asbruckman (talk) 15:15, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
science
The odor/odour section could use a scientific explanation of why bins smell, and what can be done about it. Asbruckman (talk) 16:01, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
receptacle
The word receptacle is more accurate as the actual bin itself is only holding the trash on a temporary basis. The bin liner, or bag, would be a waste container as it is literally containing the waste. So this article should be renamed Waste Receptacle. JayKeaton (talk) 17:32, 27 December 2008 (UTC)
Are you kidding me?
"This says 'Thank You' on it and this indicates that the bin is saying a message of thanks to those who have used it." "A bin that needs to go in a bin" "Oscar the Grouch puppet at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History"
This whole article wouldn't be out of place on uncyclopedia, I'm tagging it hoping someone has the time to rewrite it from scratch as this article is a bit of a joke. UKWikiGuy (talk) 23:47, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
And you have nothing better to do then complain about BIN? Seriously? :| —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.31.52.173 (talk) 01:24, 15 February 2010 (UTC)
I like bin
I love bins. Please declare your love here.
Bin that needed to be binned
What happened to that picture? That alone made this my favorite wikipedia page. BrutusCirrus (talk) 19:49, 27 February 2010 (UTC)
