Leakage on a Water Supply System

edit

It is a fact that all water supply systems leak. One challenge for water supply organisations is quantifying this. This is done for two primary reasons - firstly to locate and fix leakage, and secondly they will probably have a requirement to report their "Water Balance".

Top Down Leakage refers to one of the simple methods of calculation:

Water into supply - Known or Estimated Consumption = Leakage

Known or Estimated consumption is normally split into a number of components such as Billed Household Consumption, Billed Non Household Consumption, Unbilled Water Taken legally/illegally and Water for Operational Use.

Other approaches for quantifying leakage include: the Integrated Flow Method (the Bottom Up method), the Bursts and Background Estimate (BABE) and the Infrastructure Leakage Index (ILI).

Schematic

edit

Can someone take over, alter and upload the schematic noted at http://www.tmvw.be/userfiles/file/WATERPUNT_voor_web.pdf

Unaccounted water

edit

I was hoping to learn about unaccounted water issues from this article, but it is not mentioned. Perhaps someone is knowledgeable about this sub-topic. Wakablogger2 (talk) 07:24, 29 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Merging Sustainable Development in an Urban Water Supply Network with this page

edit

Sustainable Development in an Urban Water Supply Network is a page that has, as they say, "multiple issues". In my opinion, the best thing to do would be to move what's usable from there to a new section on this page. What do others think? Tdslk (talk) 18:02, 11 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

This seems like a good idea to me. The "Sustainable Development..." article is an essay, and editing it into good article style would be an Augean task. Mine it for useful information and citations, incorporate them into this article, and then delete the original article as beyond salvaging. Ammodramus (talk) 02:11, 6 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Agreed - although I am uncertain whether there is much worth salvaging.  Velella  Velella Talk   09:42, 6 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Purpose of link to Water purification article

edit

What's the point of linking to the Water purification article in the intro (after the watershed statement):

1. The watershed the water (see water purification - sources of drinking water);

Especially since it refers to a section that no longer exists: "sources of drinking water".

If no one objects I would like to remove the reference to the Water purification article. And of course I'm going to fix the strange grammatical error.

On another note I don't know whether or not the listed items should end with any punctuation. As it is now they seem to be am mix. TurboChan (talk) 03:11, 18 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Different systems in different countries

edit

All I know, is in some countries there is a central water tower for each town. And in other countries every house has a pump and a tank on their roof. Yes in both cases they're both using the city water supply. But one has more pressure than the other.

So please do mention contrast by country. Jidanni (talk) 08:50, 6 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

That level of details should go to the main article Water distribution system and references will also be needed for that. Z22 (talk) 11:32, 9 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Adding to Water Distrubution Section

edit

Hello everyone! I am planning to add some edits to the Water Distrubution Section of this paper In the section on Water distribution networks, I aim to discuss the geographical limitations that infrastructure programs like Agua Para La Vida consider. Additionally, I want to highlight scholarly debates about the unequal distribution of water between urban and rural areas, shedding light on the challenges in ensuring fair access to water resources.

Expanding the Sustainable Development Section to include Agua Para La Vida's innovative design approach, like the use of one-meter technology, will show how the project extends the lifespan of infrastructure and ensures long-term sustainability. I plan to make these changes to explain specific strategies used by programs such as Agua Para La Vida to tackle sustainability challenges in water supply networks.
