Talk:Watson (surname)

Watson is an old Anglo-Saxon name based on the Germanic name Walter. It should be classified as an English surname; it appeared in Scotland through the English migration. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.176.124.64 (talk) 01:23, 19 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Why?

edit

"It is related to the surnames Nelson, Getson, Jordan and Judson": why? What have they got in common? Only the second element "-son", it seems to me. 62.98.186.21 (talk) 09:56, 17 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

I agree - this unsourced bit of information is pretty much useless, and I can find nothing that reliably backs it up or explains it. There is this Ancestry.com page on Getson which explains a relationship to Jordan, but not the others. I'll remove it apart from on the Getson page (which I see now does link to that source). The relationships are tenuous at best. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 02:12, 19 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Fame and Popularity

At what point does a person become well-known enough to be added to the Wikipedia? Would historical relevance need to be taken into consideration? Also, can I make my own Wikipedia Biography, or would that be a bias assessment? 2601:5CE:4000:AC00:9DF5:B073:DEF:6E4 (talk) 21:41, 1 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

WP:TALK is not the place to discuss these questions - I suggest creating an account and asking at the WP:TEAHOUSE. However, have a look at WP:NOTABILITY & WP:COI. (I will delete this section tomorrow.) Laterthanyouthink (talk) 22:55, 1 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
