Official opening by Queen Elizabeth II on 25 July 1985 - wrong date
editI don't have a source, and I've seen two websites so far that give July 25 as the date, but that's absolutely incorrect. I suspect the two websites got the date from a common source. I was there for the event (I got a lovely picture of the queen smiling at me), and I was only in Edinburgh for 3 days during the first week of July. (One of those days was July 4, which I remember well because of the well-wishes from Princes Street Gardens souvenir merchants for us American visitors on our day of independence from Britain.) Obviously I don't count as a reliable source, but this date is certainly incorrect. I've only been to Edinburgh once in my life, and I was very surprised to see Her Majesty there opening the mall, then called Waverley Market. I saw the plaque she unveiled that same day, and I have photos from the event. Anyone interested in this mystery? Is it somehow possible that the queen's appearance to give a speech, unveil the plaque, and declare the mall open is different from the day she officially opened it?
