Reasoning behind contesting deletion: Important to ecological sustainability education
editThis is an important biological research station within the country of Belize. While it supports academic groups only, it is much more than that. Among all the islands on the reef, it is the only housing complex that supports sustainable building practices (ie boardwalks, no electricity, etc.). It is an important landmark and contrasts starkly to the artificial beaches of local islands, which kill all surrounding ecological activities. Many people think that sand-beaches are natural in this area of the Caribbean: they are not. These beaches kill wildlife and cause erosion - many tourists are ignorant of this fact. The mangroves that surround this island is a sustainable practice that, with proper education, will hopefully catch on to surrounding communities. The more the public are notified about this, the better chance we have at saving the health of the Belize coral reef. That is why I believe this article should be included. It is a landmark in sustainable building practices in Belize. Please do not delete this page, and feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
