I recall hearing somewhere, that in the event of a Napoleonic invasion of Britain, the king and government would have been shipped up to the barracks at Weedon on the canal and set up a temporary government there. Apparently because they believed that Weedon was at the centre of England.

It would be nice to include this little historical nugget in the article, but I havn't been able to find confirmation of it anywhere. G-Man 19:39, 28 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Snap! It wasn't so much that it was the centre of England - it was the point on the canal network furthest from the coast and it was to be a 'last redoubt'; I've always imagined the King, his retinue and their entourages rushing from London by horse-drawn boat. telly

edit

I remmber seeing on the telly once, it stated that the depot was there, becasue munitionns could be rushed to whichever part of UK was invaded by Napoleon. I also recall in the mid fifties, seening a red helicopted apparently crashed and abandoned at Weedon - any one any facts on that or is that a mis rememberance?

Railway station: Wikipedia is not a platform for promoting an idea

edit

The website of a group advocating some 'thing' is not a wp:reliable source for that thing - see wp:selfpublished. A news story about 14-year-old boy's dream of reopening his local station is a human-interest story and is not usable for a citation for a serious infrastructure proposal. Unless and until it is visibly and formally adopted into the strategic plans of West Northamptonshire Council, it has no credible status. Continued wp:soapboxing of ST-M (or other mutually referencing sites) in a variety of articles has reached the level of spam and is likely to lead to an indefinite block. Mention of a website in Wikipedia has no effect on search rank because all citations are set to nofollow. --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 19:37, 8 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

I have just corrected a recent change to reflect accurately what Councillor Larrat said:

In an interview with BBC News, Councillor Phi Larrat, West Northamptonshire Council cabinet member for Transport said 'West Northamptonshire Council supported new stations and a new facility at Weedon could "serve all the villages and communities between Daventry, Northampton and Towcester"'[1]

Councillor Larrat has chosen his words with great care. He does not say that the Council supports this scheme, let alone make any financial commitment to support even the study. Wikipedia cannot report what he did not say. --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 09:40, 11 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
