Thedudejessemullen – First of all, thank you for your efforts to help improve this article. As you know, any effort to help improve Wikipedia is noble. Second, I don't know if you've learned this since you posted this comment three months ago, but we do appreciate signed comments (which is done by using four tildes (typing "~" four times). That all said, I've restored the introduction that you removed in good faith (albeit in restated form). Like any wikipedia article, this needs a proper introduction explaining what the subject — in this case, a weekly newspaper — is. Perhaps someone (yourself or another editor) can further improve the introduction by removing any "pointless semi-truths" that may still exist. Thanks again for your help with this article. Thanks, I think we should remove the comments detailing what weeklies or semi-weeklies cover. While I do work for a rural weekly, I know of many metro weeklies. Thedudejessemullen 21:19, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

A suggestion — Since I work for a rural weekly also, I agree that there are many metro weeklies as well. Perhaps the intro could say something to the effect of metro weeklies as well to cover that aspect and cover all bases. Other ideas for improvement

As a secondary statement, note that I've also included information that weeklies sometimes cover other topics than general news/sports, etc., such as business news and sports. If any editors out there would be willing to add something at the end of the article (after the main body) to cover these publications, this would really help improve the article. In addition, would anybody (perhaps Jesse or someone else) be willing to add photographs to really boost this article? Finally, does anyone know of any notable weeklies that we could state in the article? [[Briguy52748 21:34, 16 March 2007 (UTC)]]

I've made a few amendments to make the article slightly less US-centric (added "or other local elected representatives" to the bit about State legislators, so in the UK context it includes people like Members of Parliament, Members of the Scottish Parliament, Welsh and Northern Irish Assembly Members, Members of the European Parliament, and local councillors at different levels - from county through district, down sometimes to parish council level). Also expanded the sports section as inter-school sports are almost unknown in the UK and certainly have no following beyond the families of the players, instead we may have village or community teams, and it's quite likely that there will be a professional sports team of some description which local people will tend to support. -- Arwel (talk) 11:27, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

This section reads like it came from a high school journalism text. It's not really relevant to an explanation of what weeklies are vs. other publications, and somewhat dated.Fijagdh (talk) 14:50, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

Frequency

This may be a difference in terminology across countries, but in the U.S., a newspaper is categorized as a "weekly" even if it comes out twice a week. A 2x a week paper might be referred to as a "semi-weekly," but only in a very specific usage. Otherwise, papers are weeklies or dailies.Fijagdh (talk) 15:11, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

History
