Talk:Weinland Park

Final class editor comments:

  • Only a few changes have been made (citations added, excellent) since the last time I reviewed this page, so the previous comments apply.
  • Just to emphasize this point: Be careful with how you describe the neighborhood (struggling, poor reputation).

Instructor Comments No. 2

edit

Well-written

edit
  • Intro needs a little more work - a little long.
  • What about Godman Guild?

Verifiable with no original research

edit
  • Need to cite more sources; Find online resources.

Broad in its coverage

edit
  • Appropriately broad
  • I'd like to see more on the Residential stuff.
  • You could add a lot of information about Weinland Park that is newer (i.e. CampusPartners).

Neutral

edit
  • When making statements that could upset people that live in the neighborhood (like issues of crime) you HAVE to cite, otherwise you'd be viewed as non-neutral.

Stable

edit

Illustrated

edit
  • Photos need captions.
  • More photos would be nice.
  • Insert a infobox.

Class editor comments:

  • Yes, as the instructor stated above, be careful labeling the neighborhood as "struggling" or crime-ridden, etc, especially when no citation is used.
  • It would be helpful if you gave more information on Campus Partners. Everyday readers will not know what this is. Also, in a way, it seems misleading to tout the South Campus Gateway as a primary commericial area within Weinland Park. Yes, it's within the neighborhood's boundaries, but it serves OSU students primarily and it rarely serves the residents of Weinland Park. I would make this clear in the article.
  • You have: "Around 90% of the neighborhood is residential with various housing types including: multi-family, apartments, row houses, and single-family homes." Is this 90% in terms of built-up square-footage or in terms of land use, or what?
  • You may want to include this in the education section: http://sfc.ehe.osu.edu/
  • References at bottom seem not fully documented.

Intro:

  • The relationships you claim here make sense (Weinland as part of the university district) but the location of you place the information in makes it seem like the first claims are unsupported. With a book source you might consider adding multiple reference in texts so the reader knows everything you claiming is supported by the book and just the one claim.
  • Pocket?
  • "Weinland Park saw the sapping of its population and wealth with the rise of newe....." Aren't you about to state this paragraph in history?

History:

  • I would change the subtitle Early to Etymology
  • Who is George Marshall?
  • use of passive voice "which in turn was called Weinland Park"

Structures and Landmarks:

  • More detail would be nice in this section you call out the building but don't really say anything about what the buildings are

Residential: Where are the residential units?

Overall: More pictures and maps are needed, especially in the geography section

Ensure that the general information, Early History, and Modern History is all arranged correctly. Ryanlaber (talk) 23:12, 17 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

A few notes:

  • Good Start on the overall document
  • Weinland Park recently had a Long-Form article in the Columbus Monthly Magazine
  • Residential Section has A LOT of potential.
  • Break apart Etymology and History - its ok to have duplicate information.
  • Geography Section: Great start, but move that info to a Residential Section. Makes more sense there.
  • Transporation: Don't use phrases like "easily accessible" - this is non-neutral language.
  • Education: Maybe make this a bulleted list
  • No mention of Godman Guild - that is an important feature of this community.
