Contested deletion

edit

This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because the artist Wendy Murray has created a significant body of work in Australia and the United States, both as Wendy Murray and also as the artist formerly known as Mini Graff. This is evidenced by her many exhibitions, her role as teacher and practitioner in an academic environment, and her various grants and awards. Murray has, for example, worked in the public art environment in Australia, continuing a tradition begun in the late 1960s with poster and other public art. Here work in Australia and the United States has been recognized by fellow artists in this area as carrying on a tradition. Murray is unique in this regard amongst the contemporary art fraternity. In addition, the entry under consideration for deletion is not yet complete in regard to including the relevant credible claims of importance or significance. I'm a little confused by your most recent edit to the article. Is Wendy Murray the same person as Mini Graff, as stated in the first sentence? As in, she changed her name at some point? If so, there should just be a single article for the single person, with both names listed. For example, Dr. Seuss has a single article, not one for his legal name and one for his pseudonym. I just removed the Speedy Deletion, to have time to check whether this artist meets notability guidelines. Then I realised that there is already an article about Mini Graff (which is itself tagged as needing more citations, and has a lot of "Extra Reading" that should be references). This article should be merged with Mini Graff, and hopefully there will be enough written about her under both names to meet notability guidelines. RebeccaGreen (talk) 17:49, 14 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Merge as noted. People who change their names do not get separate articles about each different name they've used; they get one article, at the name they're best known for, which covers all aspects of their career under all names they've used in the same place. • Merge per RebeccaGreen and Bearcat. That having been said, both articles suffer from including overly detailed lists of residencies, so I'm not sure how much of the content currently at Mini Graff should actually be merged. signed, Rosguill talk 18:33, 5 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
