Several Wenlock articles, in need of merge?

edit

I'm not very familiar with the nitty gritty of geology, but there seem to be several related articles that cover basically the same topic: Wenlock (Silurian), Wenlock Group, and Wenlock Series Lagerstätte. The Wenlock geology disambiguation page furthermore lists 2 more related subjects. Wouldn't it be easier and more convenient to merge them all into one article? Proposed merge with Wenlock Series Lagerstätte

edit

Several Wenlock articles, covering very similar content. Information should be centralized. Animalparty (talk) 19:19, 26 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

  • Support - But doesn't the period of time refer to when these geological layers were laid down? It doesn't seem relevant for any place where these geological layers are not present, and the discussion in Wenlock (Silurian) doesn't make it clear that this is just a period relevant to a certain geographical area. So I think the Wenlock (Silurian) article would benefit from the merger. But how to articles on other geological layers and their periods handle it? Are there separate articles on the period of time and the contents of the layer? I hope not. Library Guy (talk) 17:25, 6 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
  • We should definitely move Wenlock Series Lagerstätte to Herefordshire Lagerstätte or something similar. Merging seems like a bad idea. The Lagerstätte is notable for its many fossils. The term Wenlock Group is outdated and the rocks have been assigned to new units. Nonetheless, it is a notable term of scientific history, which is probably still used informally by many geologists. The page should be reworded a bit and it should mention what the modern formations are. The unit of time Wenlock (Silurian) is also notable for being in the international time scale (A definition of time that doesn't overlap with the Wenlock Group, but only takes its name from it). -Tobias1984 (talk) 18:06, 8 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
