I can see it from my window!

It is now owned by Arqiva, NGW no longer exists!

Studios

edit

Am I right in thinking that there's BBC or ITV owned studios there too? Back in August when I visited there was some sort of sign up near the transmitter showing "TO LET" or something like that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.146.54.142 (talk) 10:59, 10 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

I'm pretty sure HTV used to have studios at Culverhouse Cross, just below the transmitter site. Is that what you're thinking? Steve Hosgood (talk) 15:34, 15 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

HTV studios still operates on the site but large sections are, and have been for some time, up for sale. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.147.109.111 (talk) 23:41, 26 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Test Transmissions

edit

It's fairly "well known" that the BBC used the transmitters at Wenvoe for engineering tests. They were running 405-line colour TV tests in NTSC from there back in the early 1960's and test transmissions of 625-line colour TV from 1965 when the UHF transmitter for BBC2 came online.

Does anyone know if any of these 625-line test transmissions were in NTSC or SECAM? It seems that the BBC were still assuming that the UK's colour TV service would be in NTSC until the end of 1965, but I can't find a definitive statement good enough to go on the actual wikipedia page.

The reason for using Wenvoe for test transmissions seems to have been because Wenvoe has more relay transmitters than any other main transmitter in the UK (75 of them), and some are even relays-of-relays. This allows serious tests of the robustness of signals to be made in the wild (so to speak). NICAM was tested there in 1981/1982, the precursors of DVB-T too I believe. Style of article

edit

Compared to other articles on transmitting stations of similar size this one has all the content in the introduction. This should be broken up into appropriate sections. IMHO the tabulated sections of previous services should be rewritten into section as prose.Bill Oversixty (talk) 09:18, 18 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Dates

edit

Can the dates be made less ambiguous please ? This article covers an installation in the UK, and most readers will be in the UK, so why not use a form of presentation which we can understand ? If there is any objection to that, why not spell out the dates clearly and unambiguously with days and months clearly identified so that they are meaningful to everyone ?
