I would like to try to give any information:

Karl (1917-2002), Werner's father, was a chimney sweep and a well-known skiracer in the late 1940ies and in the 1950ies. - Werner is also a chimney sweep (now retired). His nickname is "Grizzly"; he was only a downhill racer (when "Super-G" was introduced in december 1982, he had retired before). He won one downhill race in World Cup (February 11th, 1973, St. Moritz, Switzerland), wearing bib-no 37. - At FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 1974 (also at St. Moritz) he started with bib-no 1 but he fell down. He was nominated for downhill race at the 1976 Winter Olympic Games but he was unlucky once more by falling down and being injured one day before the race. Two years later, at FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 1978 he could catch the bronze medal. Werner also was called as a "World Champion regarding split times" because very often he was the best until half of a race but he lost time in the finish (maybe it was a question of his physical fitness).

Another extremely injury (of pelvis) he took after a fall down in downhill race on January 23rd, 1970, in Megeve (France); it was a very sadly afternoon because in the same race French racer Michel Bozon had a fatal fall (he died a few hours later in the hospital).

After career as a ski racer he entered in motor sports; driving an "Audi Quattro", his best result was place 5 in the "Rally San Remo".

Werner is the father in law of well-known snowboarder Benjamin Karl. 213.225.11.253 (talk) 10:22, 22 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
