Cost-Effectiveness?
editSo, did closing the March-Spalding line actually save anything, given they've had to build this fly-under to achieve the same traffic separation? And of course, the new route is quite a lot longer - March-Peterborough-Spalding - as opposed to the old direct line... (One could say the same about the closed tunnel north of King's Cross: did that save anything by being closed, and then re-opened?)
Or put another way, are there any advantages? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lawrence18uk (talk • contribs) 20:41, 1 March 2021 (UTC)
Reduced journey times?
editI would like to know how the new dive under reduces journey times, as claimed in the article. It will increase capacity, which allows more trains to run, but how does it reduce journey time for a train to Edinburgh more than one to Leeds? The times given in the article read more like the result of an increase in line speed than this new junction. 78.33.10.10 (talk) 15:18, 30 January 2023 (UTC)
- I have been back and re-read the article and it is explicit on the timings. So I assume that because the freight trains now do not need to conflict with the fast lines, that the headways of the express trains can be accelerated without the necessity of slowing them down to accommodate a 36-wagon container train ribboning its way across all five lines to get to the Lincoln line. Of course this is WO:OR on my part. The joy of all things (talk) 21:21, 18 October 2023 (UTC)
