I have not seen any information pertaining to the fact that West Covina was a part of Covina. I know Montebello was once part of Monterey Park, but I've never read anything in print or online to state the former. If I recall, the city was named because of its proximity to Covina. -- Punani 06:07, 23 July 2005 (UTC)Reply

Hi Punani, sorry for really delayed reply. West Covina incorporated in 1923 because Covina was making some unpopular changes to the city. If you look up the Covina Historical archives, the city's former limits included what would later become West Covina. Richardsequeira2021 (talk) 06:23, 7 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

99% of this article reads like it was written by someone in the chamber of commerce or at least someone with a huge interest in promoting business and/or shopping in the city. It sounds too much like a business promotion. Disagree? Compare it to Covina's page. -- Linktex (talk) 17:12, 7 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:SealWestCovina.gif

edit

Image:SealWestCovina.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:26, 6 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Nicknames

edit

The term "Wes Cochina" was removed from the article's list of West Covina nicknames. "Cochina" means pig in Spanish and is a derogatory term in that language, and the nickname is offensive to potentially half the city's residents, as the article states approximately 45% of city residents identified themselves as Hispanic or partially Hispanic. Even if this term is used colloquially to describe West Covina, its inclusion on Wikipedia is no more than vandalism and is inappropriate for this article.

For the record, I am a Hispanic resident of West Covina, and occasionally search this article on the town I'm proud to call home.

Of the other nicknames in the article, I like "Dub C" the best; there some businesses in the West Covina area that use Dub C in their names.

--Rich Rodriguez, West Covina, CA, USA, 1 December 2008

Rich, I agree with you. Some people have used the term West Cochina. West Covina is not a bad town, it is a lot better than some of the SGV towns, gateway cities communities, and Southeastern LA communities such as Huntington Park and South Gate. At the time of writing we know have a Sprout's Farmers Market and a lot of big box retailers. The town is very much a typical suburb of Los Angeles.

And a little more vandalism

edit

Somebody had added this sentence: "West Covina has very well-kept-up neighborhoods that attract nazis and many racist families."

I took it out -- it's dumb, it's juvenile, and if it ever did contain a grain of truth, that was a long time ago. Very few (if any) of the communities in the San Gabriel and Pomona valleys attract racists any more -- as far as I can see, the hardcore racist/nazi types have been moving out to various desert communities for some time now. I know that there are still quite a few racists in the SGV, but locally, they've been losing ground, simply because of the changing demographics. —Preceding unsigned comment added by TotallyUncool (talkcontribs) 21:06, 14 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Trivia

edit

Trivia sections are discouraged under wikipedia guidelines, so either move the trivia into relevant sections of the article, or remove it completely. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.106.110.62 (talk) 13:22, 22 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

I concur and I have removed it. The trivia section seems to be (or already has) descending into a random vanity collection. (e.g. Who is Ed Diaz (urologist) and why is he pertinent or deserving of recognition?) If someone feels that it should belong, they're welcome to restore it to the page, but could you at least clean it up or break it up into sections? There seem to be no rhyme or reason to the ordering. – Switchfoot (talk) 06:25, 7 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

About actor Robert Buckley

edit

He is listed as born in WC under Notable People, but no source is given and the article about the actor makes no mention of WC at all. Arcsoda (talk) 18:33, 9 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
