After having to go outside Wikipedia to figure out that the Sudanese state of West Equatoria was listed on WP as Gharb al Istiwa'iyah, I'm moving all of the States of Sudan to their 'English-ized' versions. As it is, the article names are extremely reader (and editor) unfriendly. This is the only article so far that had a redirect typo. -- BanyanTree 22:10, 13 Feb 2005 (UTC)
- How imperialist of you. Just like the Mahdi did to General Gordon in the 1880s, I oppose. —ExplorerCDT 22:48, 13 Feb 2005 (UTC)
- Wikipedia:Naming conventions (use English) says "Name your pages in English and place the native transliteration on the first line of the article unless the native form is more commonly used in English than the anglicized form." Using the Google test we get 4 unique hits for West Kurdufan, 40 for West Kordufan, and 94 for Gharb Kurdufan, though a large number of the hits for Gharb Kurdufan are not in English and/or are from Wikipedia itself. Seeing no clear preference for either Gharb Kurdufan or West Kordufan, I would agree on moving this to "West Kordufan", the English name used on the websites of the Sudanese embassy in Zambia and the Association of Arab Universities, among others. — Ливай | ☺ 23:26, 13 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Inconsistency
editThis article is titled Kurdufan, but throughout it refers to the area as Kordofan. I presume the former is correct, but will not take any action as yet until this is cleared up. 109.76.226.83 (talk) 19:41, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
Reestablishment of state
editAccording to Sudan Tribune the state of West Kordofan was reestablished. Aotearoa (talk) 08:17, 15 July 2013 (UTC)
