Rename the article

edit

There is no citation supporting the assertion that Chelsea - Fulham fixtures are known as "the West London Derby". Neither is there any citation supporting the assertion that this is its traditional name. Over the last twenty or thirty years, Chelsea - QPR fixtures have been more common and I expect Fulham - Brentford fixtures also. All we know is that the creator of this article believes there is such a thing, and nothing more. I propose renaming it to Chelsea versus Fulham. 125.239.195.171 21:01, 1 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Five unrelated articles which refer to Fulham vs Chelsea as the "West London derby". SteveO 18:09, 3 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Let me clarify my objection, and add emphasis. My objection is to the assertion that Chelsea - Fulham fixtures are THE (emphasis added) West London derby and that, as per the Wiki article, no match involving any other club can be described as such. The sources you cite don't refute my objection. Three of them use no (grammatical) article when using the term "West London". The other two do, but not in an exclusive sense. Once again, I propose renaming the article. I think your own idea of expanding it to include the other five fixtures between the professional clubs is a workable one, but if so, a more appropriate title would be "West London football derbies". 125.239.226.220 22:44, 3 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
I don't think renaming is necessary, since the actual title of this article is "West London derby" and not "The West London derby". How about re-organising the article as outlined below and re-writing the lead to say something like: "West London derby" refers to a football match between any two of Brentford, Chelsea, Fulham and QPR..."? Validity of The West London Derby

edit

I'd argue there is no such thing as 'The West London Derby'. As for it being known as The SW6 or Kings Road Derby this is pure fantasy, I'm guessing the writer of this page has heard some local commentator coin 'The SW6 Derby'. Historically there are only West London Derbies which have been contested variously by Chelsea, Fulham and QPR. Since all these West London Teams have all achieved a fairly equal amount of modest success I don't think you could truly say that historically 2 teams clearly stand out as the bigger sides. Obviously Chelsea are now a big club in the modern game but apart from Fulham's current Premiership status can anyone genuinely impartial believe QPR to be any less an important side in English football history. It's a bit like saying Blackburn versus Burnley is The Lancashire Derby when there's also Preston, Bolton, Manchester United, Manchester City, Oldham, Liverpool and Everton all as historically significant (some if not more so) and all in the same geographical region.

I'd argue that you need to take your head out of the sand. 217.43.107.156 18:27, 21 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

The Neutrality of this Article

edit

This article is not written from a neutral point of view. I do not believe that this derby is one of the "lesser known" derbies in football. This article seems to have been written by a Chelsea fan, and should be rewritten to include the ideas above. The West London Derby is a game between any of the following: Chelsea, Fulham, Queen's Park Rangers, and Brentford with Chelsea v. Fulham obviously the biggest of all of the fixtures.

fulham and chelsea are the only two who count! no jks. don't complain just edit the article if you don't like it.

The "results" section contains some completely fictional figures. At time of writing it erroneously states that Fulham have never won (or indeed scored) in the league at Griffin Park; yet below this we read that the most recent league meeting there ended in a 2-0 win to Fulham. How much of the page has been hijacked in this way? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.50.41.245 (talk) 10:20, 10 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Re-organisation

edit

If someone fancies re-organising this article to make it an all-encompassing Brentford-Chelsea-Fulham-QPR derby page, which imo would be no bad thing, then go ahead. I have data for any of the above vs Chelsea, but would need help to fill in the blanks for the other teams. SteveO 22:07, 4 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

"Crossing the divide" section

edit

It seems there's a word missing from the condition immediately under the heading. - Dudesleeper · Talk 14:07, 7 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

I've corrected it now, although the criteria for this section probably needs to be more tightly defined. SteveO 18:39, 7 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

This article is stupid.....no Chelsea fan considers Fulham or Q.P.R. serious rivals. More like annoying little brothers who get in the way now and again —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.153.128.209 (talk) 21:31, 27 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

West London derby!

edit

There is no West London derby. As Queens Park Rangers are the only football club in a West London postal district. Chelsea are in SW3, Fulham are in SW6 & Brentford are in TW7. Queens Park Rangers are in W12, making them the only club in West London. 2A02:C7E:27BB:7F00:1942:4177:171C:D834 (talk) 16:15, 14 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
