Welcome! I lived in the Harrisburg area during the fall semester of 1996 when I attended the local campus of Widener University School of Law and continue to have a few relatives in the area. I am from Allentown, Pennsylvania. Please understand that the 'West Shore' term is pretty fluid according to the context of usage. Many Cumberland County residents embrace the term and some want it to include the entire county. The Patriot-News uses it in a broader sense to include not only all of Cumberland County, but also all Perry and York County subscribers. Heff01 (talk) 19:11, 29 June 2013 (UTC)
How have I geographically defined the West Shore in this article? I considered communities that are close enough to Harrisburg to have a strong affinity with it and are not far west enough to be considered part of the Carlisle area. Although some definitions include Carlisle, many do not and landline calls between Harrisburg and Carlisle remain long-distance. Heff01 (talk) 03:18, 19 April 2019 (UTC)
Actually most of the Cumberland portion of the West Shore by my definition is in the Harrisburg telephone exchange. Any future extensions of landline local calling areas are unlikely due to such great cell-phone usage today. The telephone-company boundaries for exchanges are at where they are at (with Public Utility Commission approval) and do not necessarily follow jurisidictional boundaries at all.
