I renamed this article to match up with the Eastern Range article. The range has been "Western Range" for almost 17 years.Beachgrinch (talk) 15:45, 31 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Western Range and Pacific Missile Range are not necessarily synonymous

edit

The original 1960s era range for testing from Vandenburg was known as the Pacific Missile Range (PMR). That included the entire range from launch through instrumentation ships and sites to impact areas. Even as late as 2009 The Official Web Site of Air Force Space Command—"Minuteman III launch delayed" notes:

"We are working with the Western Range to establish a new launch date at their earliest convenience," said Lt. Col. Lesa Toler, 576th Flight Test Squadron commander. "It's not an easy process as the Western Range, Pacific Missile Range and Reagan Test Site at Kwajalein Atoll are all extremely busy and have competing priorities to de-conflict.

DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE WEATHER PROGRAMS—METEOROLOGICAL AND SPACE ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES notes:

In addition, the Air Force provides specialized meteorological information for the Air Force Western Range at Vandenberg AFB, California; the Pacific Missile Range, which includes Point Mugu and San Nicholas Island, CA, and Barking Sands, HI; White Sands Missile Range, NM; Kwajalein Missile Range, Republic of the Marshall Islands; and other DOD research and test facilities as directed.

The article needs to make this clear if it is going to be the collection point of both historical and current definitions of "Pacific Missile Range." Palmeira (talk) 01:22, 31 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

PRIMARYTOPIC

edit

I know most of the people who will see this are already interested in this topic but there's no way something so technical and focused is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC of such a general term. First page of "western range" -wikipedia on Vanilla Google has 0 on missiles and lots of clothes companies; first page on Google Books has 0 on missiles and lots about the US's western mountains; first page on Google Scholar has 0 on missiles and lots about livestock raising and species' habitats.

This page needs to be shunted back to some natural dab and replaced with a disambiguation page. — LlywelynII 02:55, 22 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Relation to Space Launch Delta 30

edit

Space Launch Delta 30 says it manages the Western Range which seems to conflict with this page. Is this page out of date ? - Rod57 (talk) 20:06, 3 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
