Restoration of OR

edit

@Gadfium the content you restored is quite clearly original research by taking material from old primary sources to make claims not stated by them.

For example 'In 1885, the R. & W. Hellaby slaughterhouse was loosely identified as Western Springs' sourced to this: [1] the only thing the source states is 'Hellaby slaughterhouse, Western Springs'. Which doesn't suggest loosely at all and is making inferences from sources beyond what they actually provide. Traumnovelle (talk) 04:05, 27 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Perhaps you could have reworded the article to say ..."slaughterhouse was considered to be in Western Springs". If this is the worst example of the sourcing, it doesn't justify your removal of five paragraphs and 17 references.
Your edit summary was "RM OR and WP as reference. (Raywhite isn't an RS)" but I didn't see any use of WP as a reference, or any mention of Raywhite. I have since identified that you mean rwremuera.co.nz, which I agree has promotional elements, although the article is using the ref for the 1859 map, which is not promotional. For WP, perhaps you mean the link to Coxs Bay, but this is not a reference.-Gadfium (talk) 04:33, 27 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
https://rwremuera.co.nz/auckland/westmere is a local Ray White website. I may have been thinking of a different article I had open when writing the WP part as I do recall removing a WP link used as a reference around that time.
The other content I removed was the same: making conclusions not stated by the source. There is little improvement that can be done with these sources due to actual information they providing being primary and not mentioning Westmere directly. Traumnovelle (talk) 04:42, 27 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
