A comment was made in the edit summaries: "I wonder why/if that change in layout was necessary." Why, I thought it would read and look better if I changed it. :-) Jihg 01:17, Feb 1, 2005 (UTC)

A great novel I just have to say. The title alone drew me to it. Moonbada (talk) —Preceding comment was added at 01:38, 13 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Spoiler, etc.

edit

{{spoiler}}

I added the above notice, and made some (hopefully) minor changes for a couple reasons.

The main change was to delete kidnap, as this is very late in the story, and not the original intention of the characters involved. Even without this change, some of the previous information could marginally be considered revealing too much plot. The tragic ending sentence is a lesser spoiler.

On another note, I am not really sure I would call it a tragic ending, in that the tragedy does not occur in the very end. The actual book ending I would characterize as more hopeless or bleak—the mood of which was changed in the film.

Italy

edit

I added a paragraph on how Foster depicts Italy and how he uses cliches in order to compare and contrast "Italian Society" with English society. --Daniel Spichtinger 9 July 2005 15:25 (UTC)

Film

edit

Removed all film references from here as there is a separate article for the film. SkierRMH 05:43, 8 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Although I have no major gripes with the article itself, short as it is, it seems to me ironic that in the last line the article writer is mirroring the cultural stereotypes that Forster explores : since when is Italy not 'the West'? A bit of a pedantic point, I know, but in the context it seemed to me significant. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.226.1.194 (talk) 22:26, 28 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
