Origins
editI believe that Whippersnapper were formed because Swarb wanted to tour with a band, but Fairport Convention made his ears bleed (literally). His doctor told him that he must stop playing electric fiddle, otherwise he would go deaf permanently, but that playing acoustically would be OK. That's why Fairport finished in 1979. Somewhere I have a tape recording circa July/August 1979, from either "Folk on 2" or the equivalent programme on BBC Radio Oxford, being an interview with Swarb about the end of Fairport and his plans for the future. Interestingly, it predicts the reformation of Fairport Convention with Ric Sanders as first violin - some six years before that actually happened. --Redrose64 (talk) 14:26, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
