Rat City nickname

edit

From the moniker article, "moniker" is an adopted self-reference and "nickname" is given by others. It seems unlikely that White Center leaders adopted the name for themselves, but there are various theories as to its origin (see, e.g., the Rat City Rollergirls FAQ). • The most accepted source of the moniker dates from WWII. At that time the government operated a facility called, "Recruiting And Training Center" (which was abbreviated to "RATC") at the site that is now Greenbridge. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.244.31.53 (talk) 07:02, 13 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Crime Stats

edit

Can someone provide a source for the assertion that "White Center is King County's most crime-ridden neighborhood."? That way we can monitor it and pass along the title to other deserving neighborhoods as such statistics change. Lupinelawyer 13:57, 21 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

I removed the reference. If someone has RECENT information about crime in this area (and preferably from a reliable source, not from an editorial written by a high school student), please add it. DFS (talk) 03:43, 9 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Jubilee Days

edit

White Center Jubilee Days is a celebration of community held every summer in White Center. It is the result of thousands of hours of volunteer labor and generous donations from the local business community and others. This locally run festival has roots stretching back more than 80 years and has been appearing in roughly its present from since the early 1980's. It features a two day street fair (on the third weekend in July), parade, golf tournament (on the second weekend in July) and carnival. The street fair includes free entertainment on two stages, beer garden, kids center and street vendors. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.244.31.53 (talk) 07:09, 13 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
