I changed "They are exceedingly lively on the hook and afford a good deal of sport." to "They are lively when hooked and challenging to reel in." I'm not a fisherman, so if I've misunderstood, please change it. The way it was was just too anachronistic for me. Koyaanis Qatsi

Is white bass roe edible? I haven't been able to find any information. Thanks. Qatter (talk) 18:56, 24 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Picture

edit

White Bass taken from the Upper White River with an inline spinner.

I think I have a better picture of a white bass than the one on the bottom of the page. The current picture is taken from an angle that shows little detail of the fish itself. My picture shows better detail, in my opinion.

I would like my picture to be displayed along with the current one. Maybe in a gallery?Superstitionfree (talk) 08:23, 23 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

This picture is also of a higher resolution (1024x768) than the current picture (640x480). Also, the author of the current picture has published it under a gnu license. I have released my picture to the public domain. Superstitionfree (talk) 08:33, 23 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
I added an image gallery. I used the format that I have seen on other WP pages. On wiki commons there was another picture of a white bass, so I also added that to the gallery as well. I think it works well and has cleaned up the look of the page. Superstitionfree (talk) 04:42, 29 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

The photos have been removed. Is there an encyclopedic reason for doing this? The sketch at the top of the page is not as good a represntation as a photo of a fish caught in the wild. This is also a fish that I have found some confusion over its identification. It looks very much like the other fish in this genus. Also, I would like to add a guide to identifying this fish and distinguishing it from other species in the genus. (Most anglers only know it's a white because it is smaller than a stiper and bigger than a yellow.) 72.204.15.161 (talk) 06:44, 23 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

I am re-adding the gallery on 10-1-2011, if there is no objection. I informed the wikipedian that deleted the gallery: Bceder(talk) . If he/she or anyone else can not give me an encyclopedic reason, I am reverting that one change. 72.204.15.161 (talk) 19:31, 25 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Human importance and conservation

edit

This part claims, "There is no daily bag or size limit for the white bass, but in certain states white bass caught by angling can not be sold."

This is not universally true. Each state (and country) has its own regulations regarding bag, length, and posession limits. For example Missouri does have a daily bag limit on white bass. Also, the last statement is not universally true, either. It is illegal to sell fish caught by sport fishing licenses, in the United States. however there is a comercial fishing industry in the Mississipi River that does catch and sell white bass. Also, White Bass also are found in other countries besides the US. This section appears to speak for all of them. 72.204.15.161 (talk) 06:00, 23 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
