Etymology?

edit

Could anyone attempt to explain *why* the components are called candle, light etc...is it a pun on "wick" (part of a candle)? Also, there seems to be another component called tallow...Stevage 05:44, 1 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Mailing list

edit

"There is an active and knowledgeable WiX user mailing list at [1]." Active and knowledgeable? Says who? That's POV! :) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.212.44.26 (talk) 18:01, 19 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Considering the core WiX development team including Rob Mensching & Bob Arnson plus others such as Phil Wilson (author of "The Definitive Guide to Windows Installer") actively contribute to the mailing list on a daily if not weekly basis I think that might qualify as both active & knowledgeable. Developer = Microsoft?

edit

The infobox is nice, but it says Develooper = Microsoft. Don't think this is correct - Microsoft holds the copyright but the development is open source. --RenniePet (talk) 21:08, 31 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks - I spent a little bit of time yesteday with the various installers trying to make them more consistent. As for the owner of WIX, it's defintely MS - typing candle.exe /? shows this:
C:\Program Files\Windows Installer XML v3\bin>candle.exe
Microsoft (R) Windows Installer Xml Compiler version 3.0.2925.0
Copyright (C) Microsoft Corporation 2003. All rights reserved.

This is the first time I've used an infobox, so wasn't sure of the format. I'll put Rob as the developer, and MS as the owner. Christopher G Lewis (talk) 23:17, 31 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

And the license has changed since this edit was made... http://www.outercurve.org/Blogs/EntryId/58/WiX-joins-the-Outercurve-Foundation. This changed with the 3.6 version. RangerFish (talk) 15:58, 26 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Paraffin tool

edit

It's a 3rd party tool developed & distributed outside the WiX toolset. Page should reflect this as it wrongly reads as if it's part of the core WiX tools currently Malibu Stacey (talk) 10:40, 15 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

WiX.com

edit

Can someone add a link to WiX.com http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wix.com.

Thanks for that. I really did not understand this article at all as it had so much techno-jargon in it, and the Wix.com article was what I was looking for anyway. ixo (talk) 22:52, 20 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
