- Done Whatever this was, it's gone now. DBaK (talk) 14:34, 10 July 2024 (UTC)
- Ah yes it was a film poster, possibly "borrowed" off IMDB. Ho hum. DBaK (talk) 14:34, 10 July 2024 (UTC)
Education
edit"In 1911 he passed the matriculation exam for the University of London, but not with the first-class honours needed for a scholarship, which in his family's circumstances was the only way he could have afforded to attend".
A matriculation exam is a university entrance exam, so how would it be possible to insist on achieving "first-class honours" in it when the latter only applies to first degrees achieved after three or four years of studies at a university? Helmardine (talk) 12:47, 25 February 2023 (UTC)
Caption inaccuracy in article 'Shrewsbury'
editThe caption under Owens' portrait in the 'Shrewsbury' article has a significant error in stating that he was a 'World War 2 poet'. Will some wikipedian please correct this caption please. Wilfred Owen was a 'World War ONE poet' Spyglasses (talk) 05:38, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
- Done I don't know when or by whom, but this has been fixed. Thank you for the alert. DBaK (talk) 09:08, 10 July 2024 (UTC)
Section structure
editIs it really logical that "Relationship with Sassoon" is currently a subsection of "Sexuality"? I worry that his relationship with Sassoon, whilst it seemingly may have had a sexual element, was rather more than just a subset or condition or consequence of Owen's gayness. Might it not perhaps be on the same level, just as the next subhead? It feels to me almost like an editorialization, or perhaps an oversimplification, for us to have decided to slot the one topic in under the other. But what do you think? Best to all, DBaK (talk) 09:05, 10 July 2024 (UTC)
- In the absence of any response I've tried removing that layering and I believe that it is an improvement. I don't see how it worked well or that it added anything useful. Best wishes to all DBaK (talk) 22:30, 17 August 2024 (UTC)
War Requiem
editI'm surprised that the use of Owen's poems in Britten's War Requiem doesn't get a mention, although I'm not entirely sure where it would fit in. Mikenorton (talk) 20:32, 17 August 2024 (UTC)
- Good point. I've never noticed it before, I suppose as I have always arrived here from the War Requiem rather than trying to travel in the other direction. But yes, surely it is a major enough use that it needs a mention? I know it ruins articles to try to get every possible outward link in
(it was also used in a 1990s video game and three pop singles and a cookbook etc etc)
but I don't think this is an example of that. Mikenorton is it coincidence you're mentioning it tonight or were you there?? I was! Cheers DBaK (talk) 22:27, 17 August 2024 (UTC)
- Sadly, only listening on the radio, but it certainly wasn't a coincidence. Perhaps a section on musical settings, as I know that Britten was not alone in using the poems, although undoubtedly the most memorable and, so far, the only one with an article. Mikenorton (talk) 08:33, 18 August 2024 (UTC)
- I'd suggest a section on media references. In fact, I'll start it. Actually I'm surprised there's no Wilfred Owen category. Deb (talk) 08:49, 18 August 2024 (UTC)
- Deb that's brilliant thank you. The only thing that doesn't quite work work for me is the subhead which seen in a certain light can sound like Owen had work in the media! Do you see what I mean? Is a minor reword possible please? Cheers. DBaK (talk) 09:09, 18 August 2024 (UTC)
- Sure, but I'd like someone else to work on it too. Yourself? Deb (talk) 09:31, 18 August 2024 (UTC)
- Okey dokes! Granny's 95th BD party right now, but I'll try to look in later. Cheers DBaK (talk) 10:02, 18 August 2024 (UTC)
