I'm pretty sure the copyright has expired and I can claim this for the public domain, but I'm not sure how to be absolutely certain.

  • I think the only reasons for which it might still be under copyright would be
    • ...if the painter's children/grandchildren/great-grandchildren now hold copyright
    • ...if the copyright for a German 19th-century painting is different from a U.S. 19th-century painting.

According to the Burke article I cited, the painting was done in 1861 by [Bernard von?] Neher for Ludwig's 50th-anniversary-of-his-doctorate party.

P.S. If someone wants to delete this new article straightaway, c'mon, I can show you my references.
