The main article needs to make reference to the fact that it was only by taking over the lands improved by John Mechi who is commemorated by the firm that the older local farmers were able to produce enough excess fruit that made it necessary to commercially preserve it and so begin a world renowned manufacturing concern.Tolkny 04:10, 31 May 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tolkny (talkcontribs)

User:Tolkny are there any sources that can be used to show that "only by taking over the lands improved by John Mechi" is notable?SovalValtos (talk) 17:59, 12 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

A REPLY to User:SovalValtos & further remarks about Mechi

In a belated reply - I am sorry not to have properly reference that opinion that I reached after considering the work and influence of John Mechi over several years - I may have seen it expressed similarly to how I mentioned it in some of what I have read about the Wikin's commercial organisation but I cannot now recall where.

On one anniversary Wilkin's did support publicity about Mechi - in several ways but the references are, shall we say, muted, it seems that they would have us believe, for understandable commercial reasons, that it is their work that turned Heath into fruit growing arable land - whereas much of farming in the area within the ambit of The Royal Agricultural Society of England, may have benefited by both Mechi's experiments and the public spirited (in my opinion) way he tried to publicise his work - which I suspect is now best recorded (I have no evidence) by Writtle Agricultural College (or whatever they are now called - I think maybe either a stnd alone university or part of another).

One Mechi Publication is linked here: - https://www.worldcat.org/title/how-to-farm-profitably-or-the-sayings-doings-of-mr-alderman-mechi/oclc/815874022&referer=brief_results

Sorry for my manner of expression - I have a Hidden Neurological Disability and no longer the perseverance to struggle to express myself within the conventions of Wikipedia - or I would edit more.

Thanks to SovalValtos - for the comment - I hope this reaches him or her - I am sorry I do not know how to connect with others - I am still reminiscently wounded by being criticised by earleir Wikipedia editors - which originally led to me ending my contributions - the criticisms were deserved & I was probably not very gracious - I like to share my discoveries and conclusions - it is about the only society left to me - I am sorry for my pathetic comments, but hope some are at least of some help to others Tolkny 12:25, 2 March 2019 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tolkny (talkcontribs)
