Rumors of Death
There's rumors going around the Ferrell died recently. Anyone have a source to debunk this? Or possibly even to confirm it (which I doubt). --Viper Daimao 20:29, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
- 1) Anyone can submit anything they want to i-newswire. 2) The "press release" has bad phrasing and misspellings. 3) It's been five hours since the "press release" was posted, and it's not on CNN, Variety, ABC, anywhere. Not dead. -- Plutor 20:39, 14 March 2006 (UTC)

Status of Being the Funniest man alive
I see someone decided to revert my changes, but I think it would be pertinent to list that he is the funniest man alive, I mean in all honesty, it is the truth and therefore belongs on an encyclopedia entry.
May god help us all if Will Ferrell is the funniest man alive. I've always been of the opinion that he's the unfunniest man in America (if not the world). --Roger Williams 03:40, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
He's not even the funniest man that's been on SNL in recent years much the funniest alive. -- Matt

No! Will Ferrell is a comedic genius, a living legend and a great lover of women. Could it be that you attack him, because secretly you want to be him?NotWillFerrell (talk) 15:25, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
"Child psychologists have criticized Ferrell and the McKay family for child exploitation,[33]" ^ Today Show June 7, 2007. Source not linked which is a problem due to the use of appeal to authority. Should be changed to "When pressed on the ethics of using his daughter in such a role" or something similarly natural.
Animated GIF
I'm somewhat new to the community, so I'm not aware how common this is, but it seems inappropriate to have an animated GIF on a main article page (I'm referring to the cowbell image). Perhaps this would be better as a linked item. Then again, maybe I'm confusing unattractive with inappropriate. Any thoughts?
It may be inappropriate as an encyclopedic entry, but it's gotta stay because it's so freakin' hysterical.
- Delete the .gif. It's highly inappropriate for an encyclopedia, as even its supporters apparently admit. Croctotheface 06:45, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

Trivia removed
I noticed someone removed this: "Howard Stern quizzed Borat and claims that Will Ferrell is Jewish" Well, Howard didn't say Ferrell was Jewish. In fact, he said he was not Jewish, though he would have thought that he would be because he's a comedian. I think it's pointless trivia at best, not really worth including Mad Jack 19:45, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer?
It is rumored that Ferrell is considering the lead role in a film to be based on an old Phil Hartman sketch from SNL. The project's working title is said to be "Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer: the Motion Picture." —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 66.167.49.46 (talk) 00:09, 7 December 2006 (UTC).
Filmography/Notable Films
I was wondering if there should be more roles he's played at the top of the page in the "Notable Films" section. I believe that there should be more about his earlier films in the biographical section (main section).Dougmuffins 02:42, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
Famous Ferrell Quotes
This section looks unencyclopedic to me. The choice of quotes are subjective (and why only from Anchorman?) and some of the lines weren't even spoken by Ferrel's character. Anyone mind if I removed the section? AntiuserX 22:40, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
- Already took care of it. Moved it into wikiquote.
- Drewcifer3000 04:06, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
Notable Roles
I think we should once and for all figure out what constitutes a "Notable Role," since there seems to be a lot of editing and reverting for that one little section of the infobox.
My personal opinion is that a notable role should be one of the following:
- First role as main character (ie Buddy from Elf)
- First substantial role (ie Frank from Old School)
- Any roles which earned major awards such as an Oscar (none so far, as far as I know).
- First role in a vehicle film (that is a film devised/planned around the actor's personality or popularity) (ie Ron Burgundy from Anchorman)
Therefore, I think only those three roles (so far) should be included, but that's just my own opinion.
I'll post a comment in the article referencing this discussion topic.
--Drewcifer3000 01:28, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
- I agree with those criteria and selections. It should stay as is, unless, say Talladega Nights becomes more popular, in which case it would be more notable than a first starring role or first substantial role as all movies that fit under your fourth category are the most notable. JesseRafe 07:52, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
Are you forgetting the amazing box office sucess of Talladega Nights, it's Will's more sucessful film and it should be included in Will's notable roles section. Also he was first known for his characters in SNL.User:R.Bobby
Definetly Saturday Night Live.
Don't forget the critical sucess of Stranger Than Fiction(Golden Globe nomination).
Will Ferrell's is a case where he was a very funny sketch comedian on SNL, but has yet to make even one decent movie. NO notable film roles so far.
When did he leave SNL?
Seems like an important bit of info, can't find anything though
--WNW3, 14:29, 23 January 2007
I believe he left SNL in 2004 around when he starred in alot more movies. That is the reason why many leave SNL, To pursue a movie career just like Jimmy Fallon tried to do.

Suitcase of money story?
I thought I read that Ferrell came to the interview with the suitcase of fake money but didn't get a chance to do the bit before Lorne approved him. Can anyone verify this or provide a source for the original story?
He told that story to Teri Gross on Fresh Air. He tried 2 or 3 times to give Lorne Michaels the fake money. this might be the interview SteveLetwin 15:45, 16 May 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Cowbell2.jpg
Image:Cowbell2.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Images
I completely reworked the images, as the ones that were there did absolutely nothing to illustrate ferrell, as in all of them, he was impersonating somebody (except for the Ron Burgandy one, but in that role, too, he was heavilly dressed up, and Burgandy doesn't look a thing like him.) Karrmann 16:04, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
I am removing the Talladega Nights movie poster image from this page, as the current usage clearly does not qualify for fair use as it is not being used to illustrate the movie in question or to provide critical analysis of the poster content or artwork. The one that appears first of his attendance at the tallidaga nights premiur, can we not stretch it or find a bigger/better picture. It looks really bad on my monitor. ok ok ok. you should probably learn how to spell talladega and also the word premier. come on if you're posting to a public site at least take the time to at least google the words you do not know and i think all of the images that portray Ferrell are accurate being they coem from his career. The article currently implies that Ferrell has never met Bush. Criticism
Will Ferrell is known to steal humor from other comedians. We should add a criticism page, as most people do consider his humor to be bland and untalented. OfficerPhil 20:12, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
- He is a very successful comedian, so I would disagree with saying "most people" find him bland or untalented. As far as I know, every movie he's done (as of late at least) has been fairly successful. However, as with anything on Wikipedia, if you can find A RELIABLE SOURCE to reference such sentiments then it might have a place in the article. Otherwise, keep you opinions to yourself, as they have no place in the article proper.Drewcifer3000 20:35, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
- So? Carlos Mencia is very successful, and everyone knows he steals jokes. Will Ferrell is also destroying the comedy genre of the cinema. OfficerPhil 17:13, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
- Like I said, that is your opinion, and that's fine. Opinion has no place in Wikpedia unless it is from a reputable source, is referenced, and is explicitly stated as opinion or accusations within the article. Find a reliable source and it might have a place in the article. The Carlos Mencia article has at least 3 articles concerning criticisms of his originality. Find similarly reliable sources, then we'll talk.Drewcifer3000 20:06, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

Date of Birth
Why does someone keep citing a birthdate for ferrell? El redactor
- Because there is dispute about his birthdate. Check in the history, sometime in November. Baseball Bugs 12:59, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
- Here, specifically: [3]. Look back in the history prior to that, and you will see some debate about what his correct birth year is. Baseball Bugs 13:35, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
Boy you have a way of skewing the situation. The birthdate was simply done by a vandil (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Will_Ferrell&diff=85707936&oldid=85324007) and it wasn't caught. Go look at the history from that editor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:68.106.53.53). Do a better job and stop being argumentative. El redactor
- The original editor thought it was sufficiently an issue to add a citation. I have asked him to come to this page and comment upon it. Baseball Bugs 16:20, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
- Hi, I added the citation, simply because, as you can see,[4] there was a "fact" tag - "citation needed" - placed next to it at the time, though I don't know by who. That, and the "couldn't hurt/might help" aspect in having a citation. Mad Jack 17:19, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
Rude
Should it not be mentioned that Will has been named number 1 when it comes to being mean/rude to fans? From reading the page he sound like a saintly and friendly guy but I think criticism should be balanced, and I have a source to prove what I'm implying.

Place of birth
It seems that the claim that he was born in Newport Beach, CA seems unfounded and arbitrary. I feel there needs to be a citation for it. (He's listed in the Irvine, CA article as having come from there, and isn't mentioned in the Newport Beach, CA article at all). President Rhapsody 03:25, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
I'm curious to know where he was born in Irvine, CA. My family moved to Irvine in 1966, and in 1967, there was no hospital or even a doctors office to speak of. Unless he was born in a home, it is not possible he was born in Irvine. He might have grown up in Irvine, but he wasn't born there. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.12.213.251 (talk) 01:56, 14 October 2013 (UTC)

Will Ferrell vs. Chad Smith
I'd like to open with an apology, as calling the information "irrelevant" was inappropriate. Calling it excessive, however, is justified and accurate in my opinion. This section is wildly inflated with far too many quotes. It can be summed up in a small section under "Career". Corvoe (speak to me) 17:12, 16 May 2014 (UTC)
The drum-off is a major event in Ferrell's career as is the joke feud between Smith. It will air before a national television audience and raised a lot of money. It should be included. Jason1978 (talk)

To add to the Personal Life Section:
There are many parody Twitter accounts claiming to be Will Ferrell while not one of them is verified as actually being him. Of all these parody accounts, the one with the highest follower count is @FillWerrell with 2.51 million Twitter followers. This account posts a variety of tweets mostly made up of comedic pictures and videos. The account is followed by a lot of Will Ferrell fan accounts as well as a large number of regular personal accounts. Stating in the bio that the account is not run by Will Ferrell or affiliated in any way avoids much controversy as people are aware that what is posted is not coming from the actor himself. [1]

Baseball biography infobox should be removed
I'd like to propose the removal of the {{Infobox baseball biography}}. My reasoning is that it is takes up a large amount of space, misleadingly implies he is known as a baseball player, and gives disproportionate emphasis to what was basically a publicity stunt. Further, it is redundant as virtually all info in it is or can be incorporated into the single paragraph under baseball. Maybe it was added as a joke, but I can't see this article ever proceeding to Good Article status with such trivial infoboxes. --Animalparty! (talk) 00:25, 4 October 2016 (UTC)
- I've gone and removed it; discuss here if serious objection per WP:BRD. --Animalparty! (talk) 18:46, 5 October 2016 (UTC)
Images
Please someone upload a picture of Will as himself. The one I added was deleted.
Hip Hop
- Someone added best hip hop performance for Old School.
Im going to delete that because I can't find anything that on IMDB
Austin Powers
" In The Producers, Ferrel's character, Franz, shouts "I broke my other leg!", a nod at his Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery character, Mustafa."
Considering that the line is present in the original Broadway show (which Ferrell was not involved with in any way), I consider this to be false and have deleted it.
Quick spelling fix
The "political correct" crosslink near the bottom of the section should read "politically correct" I'd fix it but I don't have the privs. Cheers.

Under 'personal life' the current article says that Ferrell was a relief pitcher for the Round Rock Express, who are affiliated with the Houston Astros. This is incorrect. The Express are associated with the Texas Rangers

"The Shrink Next Door".
Ferrell was also in an 8-episode mini-series on AppleTV+ called "The Shrink Next Door". Paul Rudd and Kathryn Hahn are in it, too. It's based on a true story that was reported in the podcast, "Wondery" about a manipulative psychiatrist and one of his patients. The first episode aired 21 November 2021 and the last aired 17 December 3021.
