As I attempted to describe in the first draft of the article, there are no surviving sources that describe in Pape's own words Pape's gender or sexual identity. The categories and terms added are a good faith attempt to describe historically what terms were used by others regarding Pape and to ensure that Pape appears in categories of terms that we might use today.
