Old photograph
editIt's hard to believe that this is a picture of "the only black officer and chaplain for the entire British Army." A different William A. White? Must be. -Willmcw 05:42, Jun 9, 2005 (UTC)
- Can anyone (hint, hint) find a photograph of the real William A. White? That'd be great. Cheers, -Willmcw 10:28, Jun 22, 2005 (UTC)

Only black officer
editWhite may have been the only black chaplain in the Imperial Army in WWI, but he wasn't the only black officer. See here for instance. -- Necrothesp 12:39, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
- I agree, it seems improbable that he was the only black officer, though I've two reference sources that claim that he was. Not having anything else to back this up, I agree with your edit. Likely, the sources used bad sentence structure to make it appear that he was the only black officer, when what they meant was chaplain (which I believe automatically is an officer rank).Abebenjoe 21:25, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
