William Shuldham Cope
editWilliam Shuldham Cope died 1942 and was buried, according to [1], in Melbourne. He may well have been a casualty of the Pacific War. I think he was in the army.
@Billinghurst: What is now in the article, referenced to a newspaper, is vague. Can you throw any light? Charles Matthews (talk) 08:31, 11 January 2021 (UTC)
- CM. You are going to need to find someone who has good access to UK WW2 army records, presumably officers. I don't. — billinghurst sDrewth 09:59, 11 January 2021 (UTC)
I've added what I have found about William Shuldham Cope to the article: he was in the Welsh Guards as a young man, becoming Captain. His father had business interests in Canada, and he may well have been there c.1940. Possibly an ANZAC via his time in New Zealand, but really unclear at present. @Billinghurst: At a guess, the son was back in the UK for his sister's wedding in 1940, joined up, and was posted to somewhere near Singapore. of 29 Mitford-street St Kilda Victoria Australia died 1 March 1942 at Austin Hospital Heidelberg Bourke Australia Administration London 14 October to the right honoruable Helen baroness Cope widow. Effects £1225 in England.
Comment: The Austin Hosp is close by the Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital so it would seem reaonably certain that this is as a consequence of war injuries. Also noting that there would have been two other hospitals close by to St Kilda that would have been used for normal hospital treatment. So as a minimum armed forces. — billinghurst sDrewth 08:53, 11 January 2021 (UTC)
