editI think this article is a little too long and detailed for its subject. In addition, I'm concerned about overgeneralizations such as the notion that the Zenger trial was an antecedent to the American Revolution. How significant the Zenger trial actually was is debatable, and the article on John Peter Zenger would probably be a better place to discuss it. Drfryer 15:53, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
I've done some clean-up work on this article, but it needs a great more, especially in the section on Cosby's governorship. The facts need to be checked-- when I checked the citations, some of them turned out not to substantiate the sentences to which they were attached. Also, I suggest that all interpretive comments be relegated to the section on "Cosby's significance." A more objective tone would be desirable in the rest of the article. I just edited the Balearic Islands section in keeping with the "American National Biography" article. This involved deleting some material, including the reference to the siege at Gibraltar (which I can't document; feel free to put it back in if you find it mentioned in an authoritative source), the reference to Cosby's 1731 gubernatorial appointment (my source says 1718), and the editorial comments about Cosby's grasping ways (on the principle that an example is more effective than a general comment). Neutrality
editHe may have a really bad reputation, but this is clearly biased against him. The open attacks on him as corrupt and abusive need to be toned down, at the very least. Esszet (talk) 23:03, 31 May 2018 (UTC)

Does anyone know what a "god damn ye" is?
editWhat is this word "ye". 137.142.186.235 (talk) 23:15, 23 March 2023 (UTC)
- The letter y in this word is actually a Middle English thorn, and is pronounced "th"; "ye" is actually pronounced "thee". See also English_articles#Ye_form.Magic♪piano 01:03, 24 March 2023 (UTC)
- I figured that, but the sentance still doesn't make any sense, as "ye" or "the" is usually an article, but sometimes can be an adjective or adverb. But it is used as a noun. 137.142.186.235 (talk) 03:40, 7 April 2023 (UTC)
