Some new biographical info
editI checked a genealogy site I'm subscribed to, and found census records giving his birthplace as Scotland, his wife's name as Mary Ann and her birthplace as England. From the ages given (they differ between censuses), it looks like he was born sometime around 1826-1830 and she was a year younger. His profession is given as "naturalist" in both case, so I'm positive it's him.
I don't think I can use this due to Original Research issues, but it might conceivably help in the search for references that could be used. Chuck Entz (talk) 01:26, 29 December 2011 (UTC)
